About the Birth Tissue Technician

The Birth Tissue Technician is responsible for assisting and carrying out DNA's mission to maximize birth tissue donation in Arizona. This position works collaboratively with the leadership team, birth tissue coordinator, hospital labor and delivery nursing staff, and ancillary departments as necessary. Performs birth tissue acquisition procedures according to protocol and policy, as well as maintaining a clean, safe operating room environment. Coordinates with other departments as necessary to ensure quality assurance programs related to the acquisition of birth tissue.

Ensures birth tissue acquisition is conducted accurately and professionally according to organizational standards and expectations.

Establishes and maintains effective customer service relationships by providing an elevated level of customer service through timely and ongoing communication, presence, and visibility during the acquisition process.

Serves as a resource to ensure seamless service to obstetrics and gynecological practices, hospitals, and Affiliated Tissue Partners.

Thoroughly completes and documents the Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI), consent, and HIPAA acknowledgment for birth tissue acquisition as needed. Ensures that all potential birth tissue donors are accurately screened with tissue processors.

Fosters collaboration, communication, and collegiality with Referral and Donor Screening Services (RDSS) and Donor Program Development (DPD) to ensure an effective birth tissue donation process.

Maintains donor charts. Accurate data entry into donor record system.

Assists in training other staff members in the Birth Tissue process.

Assists in quality review and follow-up procedures of Birth Tissue processes as requested.

May be asked to participate as a tissue recovery staff member as deemed necessary by Tissue Services Leadership.

Supports, reinforces, and exhibits behaviors consistent with the values of the Donor Network of Arizona.
Performs other duties and projects as needed or requested.

Participates in continuing education as required within established timelines.

In-state travel is required

* Must be able to work outside of normal business hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed*

 

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma

 

  • Minimum Experience: 6 months experience in the medical field with a working knowledge of medical terminology.

 

Preferred Experience:

One year of tissue recovery experience

Knowledge of biological sciences

Surgical technology

Bi-lingual
