Job Description

The Sr. Employee Relations Specialist (ERS) position is responsible for gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents to assist with human relations investigations. Utilizing knowledge of internal policies and procedures, applicable legislation and available information, the Sr. ERS maintains impartiality and provides summaries and recommendations to leadership based on investigation outcomes.

Responsibilities and Duties

Employee Relations Investigation & Consultation

  • Maintain positive relations between employees and the organization
  • Act as an impartial party throughout the investigation process, analyze the results of the findings and provide detailed summaries and recommended courses of action.
  • Conduct timely and thorough investigations, including but not limited to:
    • Identifying and interviewing complainant, accused and witnesses;
    • Gathering relevant documentation;
    • Reviewing available resources, including surveillance, policies, SOPs, etc.;
    • Collaborate with any appropriate key stakeholders during the investigation, if applicable.
  • Update parties involved if investigation is beyond the timeline identified.
  • Conduct investigations for all levels of concerns, including, but not limited to:
    • Concerns characterized as harassment, discrimination or retaliation where the basis is alleged to be related to a protected class or activity;
    • Violations to workplace violence, sexual harassment and harassment policies, including claims of bullying and intimidation;
    • Other workplace concerns and employee relations matters.
  • Responsible for providing counseling to leadership regarding consistent execution of performance management and disciplinary matters.
  • Analyzes data and reports for leadership.

Policy & Procedure and Legislative Interpretation & Support

  • Performance management consultation and support with guidance.
  • Thorough understanding and the ability to comprehend applicable policies and federal, state, provincial and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Provide recommendations to concerns of workplace accommodation requests and restrictions based on policy and legislation analysis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to schedule, coordinate, and monitor multiple activities (“multi-tasking”) required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Capability with PeopleSoft, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or PHR, preferred. 
  • Travel is required – minimum 25%.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time while working on a computer. Must be able to travel via airplane.
