Job Description

This position leads short- and long-term strategic planning and associated execution for the Domino’s Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Team.  The position provides strategic direction, will be instrumental in confirming the purpose, building team and leadership to grow Domino’s global food safety and quality culture.

This role will initially be focused on International “farm-to-fork” and restaurant food safety and quality programs.  This role plays a key strategic lead role driving collaboration with the Domino’s international cross-functional teams, senior leadership on the business team and master franchisees to develop the international food safety and quality assurance programs, including evolution of standards, risk mitigation, and master franchisee capability development.  Leadership for the U.S. store efforts will focus on collaborating with the domestic-based operations and training teams and franchisees to evolve store food safety risk assessment and risk mitigation.  Over time, the position has scope to evolve to have accountabilities with Domino’s North American supply chain and dough production centers and ingredient and supplier technical services, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance programs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and directs restaurant (global) and “farm-to-fork” international (non-US/Canada) FSQA programs, strategic direction, and execution..
  • Collaborates with FSQA, cross functional, and franchisee teams to establish short-term (annual) and long-term (3-5 years) strategic goals and priorities, to develop execution roadmap, and to deliver key results. Actively seeks out and integrates emerging risks, industry changes, and mitigation approaches into FSQA strategies and roadmap. 
  • Oversees, leads, and creates vision and strategy for store food safety and regulatory “end-to-end” program including risk assessment, standards development, audit, compliance, escalation, and risk mitigation strategy and execution.  Helps build and drive accountability with U.S. business to meet Domino’s and regulatory standards. 
  • In collaboration with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, leads ERM planning and reporting and ensures alignment between FSQA and ERM risk KPIs and reduction strategies.  Ensures strategic roadmap and objectives lead to reduced risk likelihood and/or impact. 
  • Builds regulatory and industry relationships as appropriate to facilitate compliance.
  • Oversees, leads, and creates vision and strategy for International FSQA Center of Excellence.  Consults with teammates and international master franchisees to build master franchisee accountability and capability for “farm-to-fork” food safety, regulatory, and ingredient quality programs.
  • Has overall accountability of the team that drives international technical services efforts to help master franchisees qualify new ingredient and equipment suppliers. Provides senior leadership oversight for the supplier qualification activities for new market openings.  Supports ingredient quality improvements.  Partners with Domino’s business, marketing, and analytical teams on technical services projects.
  • Leverages relationships and effective communication to educate master franchisees, their teams and domestic franchisees, business teams and cross functional teams to influence their understanding, development, and support of food safety and quality standards, strategies, and execution.   
  • Directs 3rd party supplier and restaurant audits and oversees relationship with 3rd party audit vendors. 
  • Collaborates with Supply Chain Center and Product Quality and Technical Services teams to develop and refine standards and translate best practices into training for International Master Franchisees.  
  • Leads crisis management incidents as directed.
  • Manages team to perform against objectives and key results that tie to department and company priorities.  Provides clear accountability and authority to FSQA teammates and ensures the team support and resourcing is commensurate with expectations.  
  • Builds department employee engagement scores year over year.  Acts as coach to support team member learning and professional growth. 

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with leading teams in food safety and quality, preferably in the QSR industry and/or global iconic food brand
  • 12+ plus years of leadership experience in food service, processing and/or distribution environment required. 
  • Experience working directly with franchisees is highly desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering) required.  Master’s degree preferred. Food Safety certifications are preferred.
  • International FSQA experience and understanding of restaurant food safety desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing information, reporting research results, promoting process improvement, developing standards, managing processes, manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking ability with the strategic ability to think ‘big picture’ and ability to convert vision into developing and executing a roadmap.  Must address problems directly and transparently.  
  • Excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills desired
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to positively influence team members, support department team members, franchisees, 3rd party vendors and upper management.
  • Strong technical background including understanding of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) schemes HACCP, GMP, SOP, SSOP, microbiology and sanitation principles, regulatory compliance, and auditing systems.
  • Creative problem solving with the ability to recommend and implement solutions, relationship building and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding people and relationship building skills and ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Proven Ability to coach, provide feedback and develop a team.
  • Experience in managing budget and meeting financial objectives.
  • Travel (U.S. and International) up to 40%
