Backend Engineer, AI Noa Notes (100% remote-friendly within Poland)
- Full-time
Company Description
Welcome to the good side of tech 👋
You might have heard about us, but with a different name: Znany Lekarz. It all started more than 10 years ago, when we asked ourselves: is anyone in healthcare thinking about patients? We jumped in and we empowered patients by giving them access to leave and read reviews about their visit. We then provided doctors with the technology to manage bookings easily and save time, so they could devote themselves to what they always wanted: treating patients. Now Docplanner is creating a healthcare ecosystem that seamlessly connects patients with doctors while integrating smart tools to provide quicker, more precise diagnoses and treatments. And today is the day in which we ask you: wanna join us in the next step of helping people live longer, healthier lives?
Docplanner at scale
We are leaders in 13 countries so far, and more than 50 million patients trust us every month. 300.000+ specialists, 2+ mln bookings per month believe in us and our product, and so do leading venture capital funds such as Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and One Peak Partners. And yet, employing over 2.500 people all over the globe, we managed to keep the startup-mindset we started with over 10 years ago.
How does Docplanner Tech fit here?
At Docplanner Tech we are a diverse group of over 300 people working in Engineering, Data, and Product teams. We are responsible for building the product for all locations. Many of us have been here for over 5 years, yet we still welcome each new person with great joy and excitement.
We could tell you about us, but we will let our reviews on Glassdoor speak for themselves. In case you’d like to see how it feels to be 100% yourself at work, here’s a video of us.
And why should you join us?
Because it feels good to tell your family and your friends how you made the world a little bit better. You go to bed knowing that what you do matters, and that your talents align with your beliefs.
We want to help people live longer, healthier lives, and that starts with you being you. We believe that taking the diversity of human experience into account makes a better healthcare experience for all . We’re not just different: we embrace diversity. We will encourage you to come to work your whole self, and that includes not coming to the office at all if you prefer not to, as we're 100% remote friendly.
Job Description
Team Vision and Mission
The Noa Notes Team is building AI tools that turn doctor-patient conversations into structured clinical notes. Our mission is to make clinical note-taking so seamless and reliable that it becomes invisible: doctors speak naturally, and Noa handles the rest.
With 12,000+ paying users and over 1.5 million consultation minutes processed, we've proven the value. Now we're scaling: improving summary quality, expanding across devices and platforms, and building a product-led engine.
Why Our Team?
We have real traction and proof that what we're building matters. With a team of just nine, we're small enough that your work will directly shape the product's trajectory.
You'll tackle hard problems at the intersection of AI, distributed systems, and healthcare workflows with real-time audio processing, multi-cloud integrations, and making machine-generated summaries trustworthy enough for clinical use.
You'll own features from ideas through impact measurement. We ship small increments to production early and often, optimizing for learning over big-bang releases. You'll propose trade-offs, make day-to-day calls, and see the results in real user data within weeks.
Fair warning: you'll wear multiple hats and context-switch often.
That's a feature for some, a bug for others.
About the Role
We're looking for a Backend Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Noa Notes team. We care less about your current tech stack and more about your fundamentals: distributed systems, scalability, clean architecture, and the ability to ship iteratively while learning fast.
Key Responsibilities
- Own features end-to-end: from shaping and refinement through build, release, and impact review.
- Design and develop backend systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, and observability.
- Work on real-time audio processing pipelines and AI/ML integrations that turn conversation into structured clinical documentation.
- Build and optimize integrations with Docplanner products, third-party healthcare systems, and cloud services across AWS and Azure.
- Solve distributed systems challenges: async workflows, message queues, multi-cloud orchestration, and graceful failure handling.
- Expand Noa's reach across devices, platforms, and workflows wherever doctors actually work.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data to ship small increments and validate learning quickly.
- Contribute to a strong engineering culture through code reviews, testing, and lightweight documentation.
- Surface trade-offs, propose solutions, and drive day-to-day technical decisions.
Qualifications
You're a Great Fit If You Are:
- A backend engineer with 4+ years of experience building systems that scale.
- Comfortable working across the stack. You care about solving problems, not defending a language.
- Curious about end-users and how your work impacts their experience.
- Energized by ownership: you'd rather drive a feature than wait for detailed specs.
- A clear communicator who collaborates well with Product, Design, and Data.
- Someone who ships iteratively, learns from production, and adjusts course quickly.
What Will Help You Thrive
- Solid experience designing distributed systems and async workflows.
- Strong database fundamentals both relational and NoSQL.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).
- Familiarity with containerization, observability, and CI/CD practices.
- A testing mindset, you see tests as enablers, not chores.
- Proficiency in English (B2+) for effective collaboration.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with AI/ML integrations (e.g., Speech-to-Text, LLMs).
- Exposure to Kubernetes or container orchestration.
- Background in healthcare or regulated industries.
- Ability to read and work with Python codebases.
