Billing Manager

Chicago, IL, United States-Hybrid/2 days in office

A global law firm seeks a Billing Manager to join their dynamic team. The Billing Manager is an integral part of the firm’s accounting team and will be responsible for supporting the office(s) by leveraging knowledge and experience of generally accepted billing procedures and policies to contribute and support the firm’s Finance Committee objectives, while coordinating with the Global Billing team to implement and administer firmwide billing best practices, procedures, and roll-outs of new software and financial system upgrades. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

    Responsibilities

    • Providing interpretation, guidance, and assistance to attorneys, paralegals, and staff regarding all aspects of the firm's billing and alternative fee arrangements
    • Acting as a liaison with local Finance Committee members in support of Finance Committee objectives; facilitating the preparation and participation of Finance Committee calls and facilitating any actionable next steps resulting from calls, with close coordination with the Global Support team
    • Maintaining a continuing review of billing-related procedures to bring about improvements with regards to efficiency and use of resources; acting as resource for information as well as the interpretation of accounting policies and procedures
    • Managing billing completion percentages and ensuring timely billing of inventory
    • Meeting and communicating with clients upon request from billing attorneys to resolve special billing, payment, and collection problems
    • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
    • MUST HAVE- 3E/Elite experience
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly complex accounting experience, including a minimum of four (4) years of law firm billing processes and practices
    • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in a law firm supervisory capacity
    • Demonstrate the ability to develop thorough knowledge and understanding of the firm’s billing system
    • Exhibit well-developed, professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
    • Possess the ability to work in a team environment with a customer-service focus
