Job Description

The Senior Manager of Compensation directly oversees the compensation administration, execution and related systems and processes.  This position is responsible for supporting strategy, process improvement and project coordination of all Compensation activities, such as salary adjustment/promotion cycle, cost of labor and cost of living analysis, annual bonus payments, salary structure and analysis, commission plan strategy support and execution, etc. The Sr Manager Compensation manages the day-to-day activities, workflow and tools for compensation, which includes managing a team of two analysts.

Key Responsibilities

70%       Global Compensation

  • Continuously evaluates and partners with the head of People and Places to make recommendations to the enhance the compensation philosophy
  • Manages the development and administration of incentive payment, including the evaluation of bonus plans and documents
  • Calculates incentive plans for appropriate payout
  • Partners with Finance to ensure proper accruals, documentation, and financial impact analysis for bonus and commission programs
  • Ensures compensation surveys are completed annually to collect and analyze competitive salary information to determine company's competitive position in each market
  • Manages survey management tool and relationship with software vendor
  • Accountable for the maintenance and evaluation of the salary structures including, but not limited to, review of and updating of Digital River’s compensation and job grade structure
  • Reviews existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate courses of action
  • Partners with Sales, HR and Finance in the creation, maintenance, and execution of commission plans
  • Provides compensation consulting support to the HR business partners, managers and business leaders
  • Works with the HR team to create and maintain clear and accurate job descriptions, ensuring jobs are evaluated and are compliant with country and local regulations
  • This role is responsible for supporting the Head of People and Places with compensation strategy across both fixed and variable compensation

30%       People Management

  • Planning:  Define goals and determine the optimal course of action towards achieving the department/company goals
  • Organizing: Develop the proper organization structure and chain of command which leads to organizational effectiveness and a high performing team
  • Talent Acquisition:  Attract/retain, Select/hire, and promote high caliber talent to achieve the objectives of the organization
  • Coordinating:  Communicate, supervise and direct relevant staff ensuring that leadership guidelines are in place to manage a function
  • Talent Management:  Establish performance standards/objectives and conduct ongoing performance review discussions to ensure each employee’s performance meets set objectives to support salary action recommendations.  Provide ongoing coaching and continuous training/development
  • Succession Planning:   Develops successors and talent pools for key positions

Qualifications

Required / Minimum:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in global compensation administration
  • Knowledge with United States federal regulations related to HR, including but not limited to, FLSA, ERISA, ADA, EEO, etc.
  • Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies

  • Strong business skills and prior compensation consulting experience and benefits administration with HR and management
  • Skilled in quantitative analysis, including advanced skills in Excel, Access, or other database tools
  • Experience in designing, executing and maintaining commission and annual bonus programs
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in understanding and interpreting Compensation programs, policies and practices
  • Strong project and process management skills

Preferred:

  • 5+ years management experience
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or similar
  • Experience of evaluating and creating commission plans
  • Experience working with PayFactors or similar compensation benchmarking tool
  • Global compensation experience
  • Experience with executive compensation, including required reporting and/or equity administration (i.e. SARs, RSUs, Stock Options)

  • Typically, less than 5% domestic and/or international travel
