Who are we?
The Brush News-Tribune is a weekly newspaper publication and daily online presence. Brush, Colorado is a growing, small-town, friendly community on the plains of northeastern Colorado, located an hour east of Denver and 10 minutes from Fort Morgan. The Brush News-Tribune has been in consistent publication since 1896 and has recently undergone a print redesign.
No day will be the same for the ideal candidate on the job. The reporter will be encouraged to self-assign stories ranging from city and school news, to county government, clubs and organizations, business and economic development, features, police and fire beat, and much more. The reporter will be given the opportunity to learn page design and to participate in other areas of the newspaper operation.
The ideal candidate will be deadline-driven with an interest in story-telling and reporting. Experience and a bachelor's degree is preferred but not required for an applicant with a desire to learn. Knowledge of AP style is preferred. Photography experience is a bonus. Applicants should have knowledge of Photoshop or be willing to learn. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
The reporter will receive the training necessary to advance their career to a daily position from a general manager with broad editorial knowledge of weekly, twice-weekly and dailies ranging from small newspapers to major metros, with an expectation the Brush News-Tribune will be award-winning.
This is a perfect position for an aspiring reporter to learn, or for a former daily reporter wishing to relocate out of the "big city."
