About Digital Divide Data (DDD)

Digital Divide Data (DDD) is a US-based non-profit, mission-driven enterprise with the goal of using technology and digital skills to bridge the divide between economically and socially marginalized youth and employment opportunities that lead to a sustainable and viable future. DDD identifies talented but underserved youth in Africa and Asia (Kenya, Cambodia, and Laos are the main centers) to enter formal employment, undergo professional training and skills development, and pursue tertiary education. Our headquarters are in New York, and we have over 1,500 employees across our operations in Kenya, Cambodia, and Laos.

About the program

We are looking for talents with excellent language skills in Amharic, Ewe, Hausa, Igbo, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Luganda, Oromo, French,Sesotho, Shona, Swahili, Twi, Wolof, isiXhosa, Yoruba, or isiZulu. with the aim to equip them by providing hands-on opportunities to multilingual people, who are professional translators. The job holder will be responsible for creation of contents and annotation of named entities in English/French and an African language. This will be in line with the client requirements as guided by the project manager.

Job Description

Annotation and Utterance

● Intent Detection tasks: Given a particular intent e.g “change pin” in a banking domain, the annotator should come up with sentences that describe the intent or action “change pin”. Several intents would be provided in several domains like tourism, banking, health e.t.c.

● Slot Filling Tasks: This includes extracting from the utterance the correct argument value for the slots of the intent. Basically identifying spans of words in an utterance that correspond to certain parameters (i.e., slots) of a user request/query.

Qualifications

Education Qualifications

● Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Linguistics, Computational linguistics, or computer science.

● Basic knowledge of computer systems and technologies

Preferred Skillset

● Must be fluent in at least two languages -  language of the source (e.g English/French) and target language. The target language should be one of the following: Amharic, Ewe, Hausa, Igbo, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Luganda, Oromo, Sesotho, Shona, Swahili, Twi, Wolof, isiXhosa, Yoruba, or isiZulu.

● Must have prior experience doing annotation work e.g named entity recognition or sentiment classification.

● Writing, and good communication skills
