Job Description

Job Function and Purpose

The Director/Manager, Softball Channel leads the overall softball strategy for the organization including collaborating with the Product, Marketing and Business Development teams to build cohesive plans and execute them in the market to drive overall organizational value and revenue.

Success in this role is defined by creating and driving strategies and plans that deliver a market leadership position for the organization, securing support and advocacy among multiple levels of influencers, securing relevant, high-quality content, and enabling industry-best product experiences, all to drive product usage and revenue within the sport.

Key Responsibilities

Know the Market

  • Be the “voice of the softball end-user” within the organization drawing on personal experience and insights from being active within the market
  • Analyze the marketplace, customers and competitors to determine the right approaches and value propositions for different types of partners
  • Be well informed of competitive activities; anticipate and mitigate risks to the organization

Develop and Maintain Strong Relationships

  • Bring, maintain, and grow a broad and deep network of relationships within industry/regulatory organizations, Collegiate programs, large travel organizations, key influencers, and other organizations within the sport
  • Strengthen the value of the relationships and network overall by elevating the organization to be a valuable resource beyond just a personal relationship

Think Strategically and Create Strategic Advantage

  • Understand high-level company, brand, and product strategy and translate into sport-specific channel strategies
  • Successfully negotiate win/win/win scenarios in the face of disagreement and/or conflicting objectives
  • Recognize strategic misalignment and realign, replace, or exit partnerships
  • Identify new partners and extend existing partnerships to help deliver organization goals

Develop and Implement Go-to-Market Plans

  • Build, resource, implement, and measure executional plans against the specific channel strategies
  • Coordinate and align plans across all stakeholders internally and partners externally to ensure a holistic and synergistic brand impact across the channel
  • Apply fiscal rigor and discipline in establishing budgets, objectives, and reliable measures of impact and ROI

Collaborate and Communicate

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Marketing, and Business Development teams to ensure plans are aligned and execution is coordinated
  • Collaborate closely with partners, and their respective component groups and associates, to ensure plans are aligned and execution is coordinated
  • Use appropriate project management processes and tools; serve as the “hub of the wheel” for the channel
  • Communicate effectively and constantly to keep all involved informed and aligned

Drive Execution and Results

  • Establish challenging goals, set clear expectations, and hold self and supporting team accountable for their delivery
  • Drive focus and prioritization amid a dynamic market and rapid change; persist in the face of obstacles

Represent the Organization in Key Industry and Partner Forums

  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization in key sport associations and forums to strengthen current relationships, build new ones, and build advocacy for the organization
  • Understand and navigate sensitive multi-partner engagements to the benefit of the company and partners

Experience Required

  • B.A., B.S. or equivalent degree in Business, Sports Marketing/Management, Exercise Science, or equivalent field of study
  • Played Collegiate softball at a high level
  • Understands softball hitting and pitching mechanics and how to apply them
  • Very technology savvy and a personal passion for it
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, social media platforms and CRM tools
  • Years of experience below

Director level:

6-10 years of consistent, business development and/or marketing success in the diamond sports industry, sports/fitness products or B2B services with at least 3 years working on a softball brand

Manager level:

3-5 years of consistent, business development and/or marketing success in the diamond sports industry, sports/fitness products or B2B services

Additional Desired Experience

  • Experience coaching and training competitive-level softball players
  • Experience selling and/or marketing technology, ideally involving hardware
  • and software
  • Experience in field/event marketing with a strong social media component
  • utilizing basic photography/videography
  • Start-up and/or early-stage company experience
  • MBA a plus
