Job Description

Seeking a Technical Project Manager to deliver mission-critical technical projects that help baseball and softball players get better and have fun.

Diamond Kinetics is looking for a project leader who excels at collaborating with marketing, design, and development teams in order to deliver high quality products to end users and business partners alike. With you on our team, we will be able to deliver motion insights to the next generation of great baseball and softball players.

Our ideal Technical Project Manager will play a key role in overseeing project progress and successful delivery of mobile applications, API capabilities, and business-critical data workflows. This ideal candidate is meticulously organized, an excellent communicator, relentlessly persistent, and enjoys the thrill of delivering products to the market on time, every time. They know how to prioritize tasks and timelines, handle pressure well, and are motivated by getting things done! Exceptional candidates will have strongly held opinions on how Project Management is done correctly in an organization with a diverse group of highly skilled individuals.

Job Function and Purpose

The Technical Project Manager supports the successful delivery of Diamond Kinetics’ products to the market as well as key business partner relationships with development deliverables. They are the liaison between marketing, product management, and development. They constantly examine what is possible with the given resources and constraints and communicate these limitations effectively to people of varying technical backgrounds both internal and external to Diamond Kinetics. Their own technical expertise gives them particularly good insight into the world of development. Their pragmatic, details-oriented personality drives them to consider project deadlines and process improvements for the good of the company.

Success in this role is defined by: effectively planning release schedules, managing resource constraints amongst interrelated projects, examining and driving for continuous process improvement to facilitate increased project efficiency, effectively communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience as well as baseball-technical terms to baseball novices, having the technical foresight to anticipate project blockers, the people skills to know how to overcome them ahead of time, and the confidence to ask tough questions to probe estimates and discover where estimates fall short.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery of Comprehensive Project Plans

  • Effectively resource plan our limited resources against the many interrelated projects we have going on at any time

  • Collaborate with technical team leaders to manage the estimate generation and collection process

  • Confidently lean on technical background to assess when estimates can be broken down further

  • Establish a set of best practices for project management with the technical team and upper management

  • Continually revise and update project plans to reflect the changing nature of reality

Measure Progress Against Ongoing Plans

  • Measure team progress against existing development plans

  • Communicate progress to team members of varying technical backgrounds

  • Manage external team expectations by driving for successful update meetings and communicating status regularly

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing process and offer/implement changes as needed

  • Improve sprint velocity by identifying upcoming blockers and aggressively removing existing blockers

Be a Central Point of Success

  • Be the go-to person for all tasks that need inter and intra team coordination

  • Manage meetings so that decisions are reached quickly and with the minimum set of attendees necessary

  • Leverage interpersonal skills to quickly assess who will be able to clear project blockers from internal and external sources

  • Embrace the startup mentality of wearing multiple hats when project deadlines get tight

  • Handle potential blockers before they become problems

  • Team members should yield to you for status and upcoming schedule conflicts

  • Build risk and contingency plans and encourage team acceptance of same

Qualifications

Competencies Required

  • Establish sound plans and drives for results

  • Applies technical/functional expertise to deliver plans and solve problems

Experience Required

  • Proficient in Agile development and project management tools

  • Proven track record of managing business-critical projects with external business partners

  • B.A., B.S. or equivalent degree in Business, Computer Science, Product Management, Communications, or equivalent field of study

  • 5-7 years of technology industry experience with track record of success in software project management

  • Understanding and passion for the games of baseball and softball

  • Start-up and/or early-stage company experience

Additional Desired Experience

  • BS in Computer Science or MBA a plus

  • Experience at the intersection of consumer hardware and software

  • Played competitive level amateur baseball or softball

Additional Information

  • Diamond Kinetics provides a flexible work environment, but it is preferred this person reside in the Pittsburgh area so that in-person collaborative meetings can occur (when permitted based on COVID safety protocols).

  • Expect to work occasional evening and weekend hours. Potential for limited travel.
