Job Description

The HVAC Mechanic provides maintenance and repair services for all HVAC, refrigerant, heating, and ventilation systems.

Key Job Functions

  • Responsible for inspection, operation, preventative maintenance, calibration, adjustment and repair of all heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation equipment/systems and associated controls and components to include sheet metal work and insulation as needed.
  • Responsible for diagnosing and isolating malfunctions with building conditioning (HVAC and EMCS) systems, by using calibration, pressure, temperature, test equipment, and electronic equipment.
  • Responsible for inspection and test of HVAC systems installation of new, repaired or cleaned components, and performing repairs and modifications to HVAC systems to keep them operating safely, efficiently, and for maximum life expectancy, according to directives, established schedules, and accepted trade practices.
  • Determines operational condition of HVAC systems components, and equipment during established building tours.
  • Performs safety inspections to identify fire and mechanical hazards, interprets inspection findings, and determines corrective action.
  • Determines extent of repair procedures and accomplishes it by using new or stock parts.
  • Tests and calibrates repaired items to assure adequacy and reliability of repair.
  • Establishes work methods, controls and standards.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after normal work hours on weekends and holidays as required.
  • Performs duties in other trade areas as required
  • Follows requirements in areas such as record keeping, job assignments, etc.
  • Keep chain of command informed of significant issues or developments related to their area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Journeyman HVAC-R License valid for the state in which you will be working unless grandfathered in under prior contract agreement for the specific site
  • High School Diploma
  • Must be a US citizen and able to pass a Federal Background investigation
  • Must pass background check and be able to pass security clearance if necessary.
  • Must possess at least six (6) years related experience for complex facilities.
  • The successful candidate will have troubleshooting experience in VRF Systems, refrigeration, chillers, towers, boilers, and control systems, and 5 years commercial HVAC experience
  • The candidate also must demonstrate strong verbal communications skills and will be committed to providing superior customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, shop sketches and verbal instruction
  • Must have CFC Certification
  • Proficient in operation, repair, maintenance, and diagnostics of Variable Refrigerant Flow systems (VRF)
  • Proficient in the use of the required equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of principles of refrigeration, chemical properties, utilization of refrigerants, thermodynamics, electrical materials, techniques of automation (EMCS), as these principles apply to HVAC systems
  • Ability to interpret and apply schematic and wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical publications, safety codes, and operational directives
  • Ability to work in elevated spaces, climb ladders, work in telescoping lifts, enter roof hatches, work from ladders, scaffolding and or roofs
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in an environment with dust, dirt, sharp objects, fumes, VOC’s, acids, etc., with proper safety equipment
  • Ability to work in both hot and cold environments, with proper safety equipment, such as, inside/outside all year walk in refrigerators/freezers, mechanical rooms and compressor rooms
  • Ability to work safely in-group and individual situations
  • Ability to move and operate small and large power operated equipment, such as, telescoping lift, gas/diesel generator, welder, reciprocating hammer-drill
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
