WHAT’S THE JOB?
Join our NRB Modular Solutions team, where our people are driven by a desire to innovate, do social good, and move construction forward.

The Subcontracts Co-op Student, reporting to the Subcontracts Lead, will support with contract management and tactical support throughout the planning, design, procurement, construction and start-up stages of the NRB Modular Solutions’ project lifecycle in accordance with policies and procedures. Relative to the sourcing and issuance of suppler contracts, and under the guidance and general direction of the Subcontracts Specialists and Subcontracts Lead, the Subcontracts Co-op Student will assist with organizing, drafting, executing, and tracking many of the contract management functions. 

This co-op term will start in May.

Your work will include:

  • Supporting the Subcontracts Specialists to contribute to front-end project planning activities, including identifying commercial opportunities and risks and recommend advantageous sourcing/contracting strategies.
  • Support Subcontracts in drafting and executing all RFx activities (preparation, issuance, evaluation, award) through lifecycle.
  • Contract formation activities (largely against established/approved templates); work with Subcontracts Specialists, Subcontracts Lead, Client Contracts, and Legal as required.
  • Track and administer post-award contract changes.
  • Support in ensuring supplier compliance to policies, qualification requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure vendor master set-ups are appropriately requested and utilized.
  • Monitor and ensure supplier pre-qualification status.
  • Alongside Project Execution, work closely with EHS and Aboriginal Affairs to ensure NRB is appropriately engaging with (and contracting with) suppliers that advance a safe-work culture and that place a priority on NRB’s community engagement commitment.
  • Issue Purchase Orders (companion to contract commitments) in NetSuite/Procore, and monitor spend/progress against contracts.
  • Ensure that suppliers are aware of our invoice requirements and troubleshoot invoice concerns as a contract owner. 
  • Creation and distribution of reports as required.
  • Ownership, and active maintenance of, NRB’s Subcontracts SharePoint and Procore folder structure and associated data.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Student in process of a Degree or Diploma program in a related field
  • Exposure to construction projects as asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian construction contractor market is an asset.
  • Previous experience in residential and commercial construction is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology to add value to our work.
  • At minimum, foundational understanding of contractual and technical terms and RFx process.
  • Foundational understanding of Contract Law and the legal principles related to contract drafting/interpretation
  • Foundational understanding of the various construction contract models (ex. lump sum, reimbursable, time and materials, etc.).
  • Excellent excel spreadsheet and word processing skills.
