As a Senior Designer, you will be responsible for the development and preparation of engineering designs and drawings, writing technical reports, and ensuring that design drawings conform to specifications and design data.  Responsibilities will include the preparation and interpretation of conventional and digital engineering designs, drawings and specifications for electrical and components, designing plug boards, and building layout for use in manufacturing processes. You will train and mentor Designers and Junior Designers on the team.

Your work will include:

  • Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
  • Operate Revit and computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations.
  • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.
  • Work with document controller to regulate that only current versions of drawings are released to shop floor or field operations.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Prepare and develop conventional and computer-assisted design (CAD) engineering designs, drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with external engineering partners and other personnel to resolve design challenges.
  • Review and understand contract summaries of work with the ability to offer input into the creation of actionable design schedules;
  • Create and check design information with consideration for accuracy, completeness and adherence to client specifications; ensuring compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations/standards;
  • Work with project teams and Project Managers to proactively support internal and external customers (Estimating, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Transport and Site Works/Field Services) to ensure successful project execution;
  • Train and mentor other Designers on the team.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Building Technology Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, specializing in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural studies.
  • 10 or more years’ experience with wood frame building technology relating to commercial, residential, industrial and/or hospitality sectors. Steel frame experience is also required.
  • Experience with modular/factory-built construction is an asset.
  • Revit software experience required; working knowledge of AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP would be an asset.
  • Ability to read and create building specifications and detailed construction drawings.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.).
