Job Description

The HSE Coordinator performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Day to day delivery of an integrated Occupational Health and Safety program for, but not limited to, Workforce Accommodations, Forestry and the Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP) while assisting in the Workforce Accommodations Forestry and Energy Services (WAFES) West operation when and where required.
  • Maintain a high standard of internal and external customer care and contribute towards the development of customer service excellence.
  • Supporting and motivating leaders to provide ownership of the safety management systems to give appropriate priority to HSE in relation to other business objectives.
  • Maintain an understanding and sensitivity required to address the ever-changing demands to meet business expectations.
  • Innovative in identifying and supporting strategies to changing business environments.
  • Using technical, human factors and other theoretical knowledge, to research, review and interpret information on hazards to identify causation, consequences, possible risk controls, including critical controls.
  • Ensuring processes are in place to empower employees to stop work considered an immediate threat to health, safety or the environment.
  • Work closely with their manager of HSE to ensure a consistent HSE approach is applied throughout all sites
  • Monitoring HSE performance and recommending appropriate preventative measures to Operations and the manager of HSE.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of risk management and HSE management processes at operational levels.
  • Working with external training providers and supporting operations with their external Health Safety Environment and Forestry (HSEF) training requirements.
  • Ensures that health, safety and environment management systems are resourced and implemented for the prevention, in so far as is reasonably practicable, of all injury, illness to employees and other persons, damage to assets, infrastructure and the environment.
  • Support any Field HSE employees; provide advice, support, guidance, leadership, and direction.
  • Measure the field level HSE program performance to achieve targeted business output and improvement levels.
  • Support site leadership to ensure they observe and follow information flow and data publications and that all staff are properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies and bulletins.
  • Support site leadership in completing field audits on contractors as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • CRSP, CRST or a closely related field is strongly preferred
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education from an accredited university or college in Business Commerce, or Trades and Technology an asset.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a specialized Occupational Health and Safety training program is considered an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in the safety field.
  • Knowledge of current occupational Health and Safety regulations in Canada (municipal, provincial, federal) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of provincial disability management protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle required to operate.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others.
  • Ability to support others by demonstrating empathy, open-mindedness and respect
  • Intermediate to advance skills in using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual; English and French, is an asset.
