Job Description

Based in a world class camp facility, the regular shift for this position is 20 Days on and 10 Days off, with 10-12 hour workdays. Transportation is provided to site from pickup points in Edmonton, Fort Saint John, Grande Prairie.

Make an Impact
The Second Cook is responsible for assisting in the overall kitchen operations and maintenance as well as cleaning and sanitizing of designated kitchen areas, tools, equipment, pots, and dishes.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. 

What you’ll do

  • Ensure consistent quality standards in food preparation as per client’s requirements
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation in kitchen in accordance with Food Safe protocol.   Complies with and ensures food hygiene regulations are carried out accordance with Food Safety Act
  • Prepare food items for Sandwich Making including:
  • Select and cut breads
  • Cut and wrap sandwiches
  • Slice cold meats and cheese by hand or machine
  • Distribute meats, fillings, garnish and other ingredients on breads
  • Label sandwiches
  • Visually inspect appearance of all cold food for proper color combination and overall presentation to maintain appeal
  • Check and control proper storage of all food items in refrigerators and freezers to maintain product freshness
  • Prepare and set up a full salad bar for lunch and supper
  • Incorporate into preparation any requests to comply with special dietary constraints
  • Ensure food stocks are utilized effectively
  • Assist with unloading, loading and placing of groceries and supplies
  • Assist Leadership in performing administrative tasks (i.e. maintaining Temperature logs refrigerator and internal cooked foods, etc.) effectively and efficiently
  • Assist with Horizon North Camps and Catering (HNCC) Workplace Health & Safety initiatives
  • Ensure health and safety regulations and quality standards are maintained
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be required

Qualifications

  • You have at least FoodSafe Level I. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset.  
  • You have a minimum three 3 years' cooking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment preferred
  • You have excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills; and superior initiative and attitude
  • You can prioritize multiple demands and strong customer service focus
  • You can multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • You have excellent problem-solving skills
  • You have the ability and desire to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a team player
