Make an Impact
The Senior Architectural Designer will be responsible for the accurate and timely development of technical designs and specifications for construction projects in commercial, residential, social, industrial and healthcare industries. This role is required to be an effective member of the team from concept to client handover to deliver world class building solutions. The Senior Architectural Designer will train and mentor members of the team.

What you’ll do

  • Lead technical assistance and guidance on new proposals and contracts;
  • Guide and develop creative concept development for large and small scale projects regionally and nationally;
  • Prepare proposal specifications and presentation documents in accordance with client and/or project requirements and check the work of other team members; 
  • Review and understand contract summaries of work with the ability to create of actionable design schedules;
  • Guide and mentor team members on tailoring design approaches to achieve best project value
  • Develop and prepare technical designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data; and check the work of team members
  • Be the point person and technical liaison for the design team on your projects to the project managers, procurement and manufacturing to proactively support their teams
  • Successfully collaborate with Architectural and Engineering partners to positively impact to the design process  and to resolve challenges;
  • Responsible for ensuring designs and shop drawings meet or exceed client expectations and contract requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring constructability and thoroughness of drawings and for bill of material creation on your projects 
  • Create and check design information with consideration for accuracy, completeness and adherence to client specifications; ensuring compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations/standards; 
  • Work with Horizon North Purchasing and vendors to source, review and specify equipment;
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be required

Qualifications

  • Architectural or Engineering Degree or Building Technology Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, specializing in Architectural studies or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 10+ years experience with a wood frame building design relating to commercial/industrial/hospitality/residential sectors;
  • 5-10 years experience on ICI (industrial, commercial, institutional) projects with strong drafting background on Revit MEP and AutoCAD;
  • Strong and proven Revit experience;
  • Experience Project Managing or acting as job captain is an asset;
  • Experience with manufacturing or factory-built construction is an asset;
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.).
  • Ability to lead and guide a team of designers through design and project execution
  • Ability to read and create building specifications and detailed construction drawings in Revit with BIM 360 and in Autocad
  • Demonstrate values of safety, teamwork, accountability, integrity and service;

  • Experience with root cause and corrective action methods;
