Based in Kamloops B.C. the Director, Manufacturing is a newly created role that is focused on achieving the highest levels of team effectiveness and cohesion, as well as leading the comprehensive adoption of advanced manufacturing practices, including Lean and Industry 4.0. This position reports directly to the VP, Manufacturing & Product Development and will work closely with the estimating, design, supply chain, and construction teams (in British Columbia and Alberta). If the role is carried out successfully, the following outcomes will be achieved:

• The manufacturing team consistently attracts and retains the best technical and operational talent in Canada. 
• Lean redesign of the value stream has resulted in significantly improved operational flexibility and scalability, and a reduced cost structure. 
• Horizon North’s manufacturing plants are recognized for having achieved industry leading flow (people, material and information) and Industry 4.0 adoption.
• The latest process technology has been integrated into operational processes and systems.
• Processes that support a shift from custom manufacturing to a mix of configure-to-order (CTO) and engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing have been implemented, including configuration design and management, and concurrent design for manufacture and assembly.

Who Are We Looking For?

• A university degree in engineering or operations management. Advanced degree an asset.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in a discrete manufacturing environment.  Low volume / high mix experience would be an asset.
• Minimum 9 years of experience in operational management. Multisite, experience an asset.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in people management, including managing mangers.
• A practical, working knowledge of team effectiveness development methodologies and change management philosophies and tools.
• A deep theoretical and practical understanding of Lean as well as proven skills and experience in leading process improvement programs that resulted in significant, measurable improvements in operational performance.
• A deep understanding of problem-solving methodologies as well as the skills necessary to structure and solve abstract / complex technical problems effectively.
