Job Description

We are seeking a GCP Network Architect to lead the evolution of our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) network architecture at enterprise scale. You will partner with platform engineering, security, and application teams to define and implement secure, resilient, and high-performance connectivity patterns across cloud and hybrid environments. This role is ideal for a senior architect who combines deep technical execution with strategic leadership and can translate business, security, and reliability goals into pragmatic architecture decisions, standards, and roadmaps.
This role is part of the cloud networking and platform architecture function, with broad ownership and influence across teams.

Responsibilities
• Work with an agile mindset and according to agile methodology, collaborating closely within the team, with other teams in the Domain and Deutsche Telekom, and with software engineers using the cloud platform
• Define and own target-state GCP network architecture (hub-and-spoke/shared VPC, segmentation, routing domains, ingress/egress patterns)
• Design and govern hybrid connectivity strategy (Cloud Interconnect, HA VPN, partner connectivity, on-prem integration)
• Set architecture standards for DNS, load balancing, firewall policy, NAT, private service access, and service-to-service connectivity
• Lead infrastructure-as-code architecture and reviews (e.g., Terraform) to ensure repeatable, secure, and compliant network deployments
• Drive network reliability, performance, and security through observability standards, SLO-aligned metrics, and incident trend reduction plans
• Lead complex cross-team troubleshooting and guide root-cause analysis across regions and interconnected platforms
• Mentor engineers and architects on network design patterns, architectural trade-offs, and operational excellence
• Use AI-assisted tooling responsibly to accelerate design analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation quality
• Maintain clear documentation and contribute to policies, standards, and guidelines
• Influence strategic technology decisions and make recommendations that improve scalability, risk posture, and delivery speed

Qualifications

• English language proficiency (team and hub language is English)
• 5+ years of experience in cloud networking, network architecture, or platform engineering roles, or equivalent
• Strong hands-on experience with GCP networking: VPC design, routing, Cloud Router, Cloud NAT, load balancing, DNS, firewall policies, and Private Service Connect
• Experience designing hybrid and multi-environment connectivity using Cloud Interconnect and/or HA VPN
• Proven track record leading architecture decisions in complex enterprise environments and aligning multiple stakeholders
• Strong understanding of network security principles (segmentation, least privilege, egress control, zero-trust-aligned patterns)
• Proficiency in Terraform and CI/CD workflows for infrastructure delivery
• Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, Go, or similar) for network automation and diagnostics
• Ability to balance strategic architecture direction with hands-on execution when needed
• You are curious and interested in the latest technologies, especially cloud networking, architecture, automation, and AI
• You are willing to use AI tools responsibly in daily engineering work
• You are willing to enter unknown territory, make mistakes, and learn from them together
• You enjoy varied topics in an interdisciplinary team and have high intrinsic motivation
• You can present and communicate architecture decisions clearly, including visual network designs and trade-offs

Nice to have
• Experience with multi-project landing zones and enterprise governance models in GCP
• Familiarity with adjacent clouds (AWS/Azure) and cross-cloud connectivity patterns
• Experience with Kubernetes networking (GKE), service mesh concepts, and API connectivity patterns
• Experience driving architecture review boards, design authorities, or technical governance forums
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect)
• Exposure to monitoring/logging tools (Cloud Monitoring/Logging, Prometheus, Grafana)

Additional Information

Growth and support
• High-autonomy role with visibility to senior engineering and platform leadership
• Dedicated collaboration with senior cloud and network architects and principal engineers
• Learning time and budget for advanced certifications (target: Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer)
• Opportunities to define reference architectures, influence platform roadmap priorities, and shape enterprise network standards

Success indicators (first months)
• Deliver reviewed network architecture designs and Terraform implementations for production environments
• Establish documented, observable, and policy-aligned network patterns adopted by multiple product and platform teams
• Reduce recurring network incidents and improve lead time for secure connectivity onboarding
• Build stakeholder trust through clear architectural guidance, design governance, and measurable platform outcomes
