Job Description

Overview:

Designers are responsible for visual data interpretation, translation, organization, design iteration, and/or prototyping (in conjunction with research staff, with support of the Design Director). They are also responsible for creation of the company’s consistent visual information output and design presence (with support of the Design Director).

Responsibilities:

  • Developing instructional materials that are grounded in regulatory guidance, knowledge of human factors, and best practices in graphic design.
  • Producing deliverables that are consistent with, or expand upon, company standards for quality, branding, and visual elements.
  • Interpreting and manipulating data/information to produce actionable deliverables
  • Championing the design perspective clearly and professionally in communication with clients and internal team members.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • BS/BA in industrial design; graphic design; communications design, or related field required. MA or other graduate degree beneficial.
  • 3+ years of experience creating information graphics, motion graphics, and/or instructional materials and GUIs for medical/commercial products.
  • 3+ years of experience collaborating with internal or external stakeholders and/or clients.
  • Ability to apply design-based knowledge and skills to expertly interpret, synthesize, and translate data into actionable information.
  • Excellent technical design skills (e.g., typography, color theory, layout) and attention to detail.
  • Extreme proficiency in Adobe applications (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop required; additional beneficial), Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Ability to work full time at the Design Science office in Philadelphia, PA and to travel 20% of the time, domestically and internationally.
  • The finalist must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Additional Desired Skills and Experience:                                           

  • Creative thinker with sensitivity for data visualization and product design.
  • Evidence of the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Evidence of collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines such as software development, mechanical and electrical engineering, human factors, cognitive psychology, and marketing.
  • Working general knowledge of human factors and ethnography.
