Job Description

Reporting to the Editorial Manager, Editorial Services, you will proofread and edit direct mail, digital assets, social media content, and all omnichannel forms of client marketing messaging and brand positioning to ensure there are no spelling, grammatical, typographical, compositional, or other errors in copy. You'll collaborate with a team of copy editors, creatives, print production, and other specialties. You'll develop an understanding of our clients' brand standards and gain institutional knowledge of each to maintain cohesiveness and consistency when proofreading and copy editing our clients' marketing components.

  • You'll maintain rigorous scrutiny of advertising copy to identify and mark up any errors or queries regarding grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and client style/terminology nuances; this includes full comparison reads or cold ('as is') reads and contextual/common-sense review.
  • You'll work in a collaborative environment, staying aligned on daily proofreading deliverables for multiple clients.
  • You'll help write within a limited scope, such as pre-headers and subject lines.
  • You're comfortable questioning when there may be uncertainty in the text, using a structured proofreading process to ensure error-free copy while providing a final quality check of all assets.
  • You'll follow process and quality procedures, ensuring high-level accuracy metrics for all components.
  • You'll create and follow internal client style guides and will perform other Editorial tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2 years minimum experience proofreading or copy-editing in a high-volume agency setting
  • Bachelor's degree in English or Journalism; in lieu of degree, equivalent experience in a relevant field required
  • Knowledge of editing and annotating in Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Excellent command of the English language as it relates to advertising copy: grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and clients' brand preferences and writing-style nuances
  • Working knowledge of the AP Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style, or The Elements of Style
  • WorkFront, Figma and other workflow tool experience
  • Excited at the possibility of writing limited-scope creative as needed
  • We are only accepting candidates in the Chicago area as some office time is to be expected.
