Commercial Partnerships own the discovery, negotiation, and activation of partnerships with the supply-side as well as enablement for internal teams to utilize these partnerships for the benefit of our clients. 

Job Description

The SVP partners with the President, Amplifi Canada and the Chief Trading Officer, in the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of a range of partnerships with the supply-side, including but not limited to principal trading, upfront investment, product co-creation, and outcomes-based buying. In performing these duties, the SVP will set up and maintain the core structures of a modern trading organization – forward visibility of spend, analysis of trends, negotiating as one entity, and selection of best-in-class preferred partners. The Role will also sit on the Senior Leadership Team for the media service line for Dentsu in Canada. 

The SVP will lead and grow the Canadian trading team – developing their skills, evaluating their performance, and managing their growth. In addition to their core assignments, the SVP is expected to take part in larger areas of agency development – aiding new business, collaborating across teams, and participating in North America client and commercial programs. The SVP is expected to build a trading capability in Canada that is uniquely tailored to the market, the needs of our local clients, and the overall goals of the Canadian dentsu organization – yet also achieve a high degree of interoperability with the US, through the shared product and client sales capabilities. 

  • Manage and the deliver the Canada media income and diversified income budget
  • Scale and launch the Agyle and Dentsu product families in Canada (working with NA product leads)
  • Identifies, negotiates, and delivers commercial partnerships with existing and new partners
  • Works with the President, Amplifi Canada and Chief Trading Officer, NA to ensure that the wider commercial strategy is defined, executed and fulfilled in any given year – and over the longer-term (multi-year planning)
  • Analyzing data and understanding market patterns to generate strategic revenue opportunities
  • Recognizes the general media landscape, including leading and emerging media channels/partners and brings forward new ideas for growth and revenue opportunities
  • Collaborates with internal team to contribute to day-to-day strategic work for client(s) & commercial analysis for deals and partnerships
  • Oversees the financial tracking and reporting of deals and client spend trends and ensures the correct systems, tools, personnel and process are in place

Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Become the ambassador for commercial partnerships, Agyle, Amplifi and any other products within the dentsu
  • Ensure that the Trading Team is accurately managing expectations for deliverables
  • Ensure that feedback from teams is addressed in partner select and negotiation process
  • Thorough understanding of all elements of investment and revenue-generating partnerships and contracts/agreements – and an ability to pass this knowledge on to direct reports and junior members
  • Looks to identify opportunities to improve revenue generation, whether by creating new products/partnerships, identifying new partners or client opportunities, or margin improvement
  • Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate

Strategic Thinking & Leadership

  • Balance, prioritize and properly assign work associated with multiple, concurrent projects
  • Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
  • Sets the standards, tone as well as people and process for the wider Canadian trading team
  • Ensure key information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of analytical experience within media environment (sales or agency)
  • Advanced commercial skills
  • Ability to articulate strategic foundation for their development
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proven leadership skills and management experience. Demonstrated leadership skills through staff development and ownership of department/agency initiatives
  • Presence in leading presentations and other forms of client or internal communications
  • Strong ability to properly delegate tasks to staff to ensure appropriate utilization
  • Strong ability to manage crisis  with a solutions oriented mindset
  • Strong understanding of the financials of client/agency relationships
  • Motivation to participate in agency development and support new business
  • Excellent track record of maintaining multiple engagements at once and presenting growth opportunities to management
