Job Description

The Sr. Account Manager (SAM) is a base-level management position. This position is accountable for the negotiation, buying, implementation and tracking of programmatic and direct digital media plans. The role itself demands an approachable, agile team player with a proven track record in successful programmatic performance trading. The SAM partners with the Associate Media Director to set the overarching strategic tone for the assigned accounts. The SAM is expected to have a strong working knowledge of digital media, digital platforms, and negotiations/buying strategies. This includes ensuring campaigns are set up and go live on time, deliver in full to the correct budget and to their performance KPI. The SAM is responsible for managing a team – developing their skills, evaluating their performance, and managing their growth. In addition to their core account assignments, the SAM is expected to take part in larger areas of agency development – aiding with new business pitches, committees, and task forces. This role is a step toward greater leadership within the media group and the agency overall.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Negotiating/Buying:

  • Lead negotiation process with vendors based on individual Brand needs (as defined by Brief, DBA) and campaign objectives
  • Oversee the quality assurance in programmatic trading and ensure that all SOPs are being adhered to
  • Manage preparation, development, execution, and stewardship of media buys for specific clients and/or brands, and accountable for supporting the team and ensuring plans are executed in line with Dentsu standards  
  • Serve as project manager, responsible for communication of campaign performance including the ability to provide insightful feedback on questions related to technology, data, optimization & in-platform QA
  • Manage media buyers and assistant media buyers, facilitating and maintaining regular check-ins with your team to guide and oversee execution of media buys
  • Monitor budgets, daily pacing, and overall campaign objectives
  • Understand the digital media landscape to drive innovation throughout the campaign
  • Manage publisher relationships including contracts, NDAs, T&Cs, contact information, communication and ratecards
  • Serve as the point of contact for the assigned Subject Matter Expert, leveraging your wealth of digital and programmatic expertise to assist in the development and training
  • Build reports to accurately communicate campaign pacing and performance with the assistance of the Analytics or internal team Create Cross Divisional POV development as needed
  • Work with media partners to ensure accurate platform implementation, troubleshoot issues on all pre-production and live campaigns
  • Work with Planning and Insights team to conduct market research and compile information for media plans
  • RFP partners for Planning initiatives, evaluate proposals, and make recommendations based on data
  • Work with Analytics & Planning teams on media objectives to determine campaign KPI’s and optimization strategy/execution
  • Work within multiple media buying systems to ensure all data points have been finalized for final contract
  • Work with Digital Operations to confirm and implement tracking tags and restrictions
  • Act as the internal point person, where appropriate, with Carat's Network, Spot, Print, Insight, Digital, Finance & Traffic departments
  • Develop and maintain timelines for all projects, balance and prioritize to properly assign work to team
  • Act as a final resource for all inventory, billing and invoice discrepancies
  • Serve as a resource for associates and assistants for advice, counsel, and mentorship

Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Understand the business  both internally and clients’ needs
  • Manage expectations of all departments and deliverables
  • Grow business opportunities, where appropriate
  • Have a thorough understanding of all elements of the business
  • Lead face to face vendor meetings
  • Participates and presents in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate
  • Establishes strong internal relationships with other service line personnel such as planning, operations & analytics

Strategic Thinking & Leadership

  • Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
  • Ensure key information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
  • Mastery & ability to train on multiple platforms covering all channels (major players)
  • Is approachable and solution-oriented when presented with problems/issues by staff and team
  • May be responsible for constructing and delivering accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
  • Ability to QA effectively & efficiently
  • Is mindful of the division’s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team and presenting to clients
  • Breaks down problems and issues into critical parts which can be resolved
  • Oversees management of specific projects as assigned
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities
  • Oversee team activities, maintain overall quality control
  • Develop junior team members into successful future stars
  • Is an engaged member of the media industry, and proactively solicits and contributes innovative ideas

Communications Skills

  • Express oneself clearly and concisely in oral and written communications
  • Organize ideas and information logically and sequentially
  • Develop media presentation materials that are clear, compelling and persuasive
  • Adapt communication style to relevant audience
  • Constructively edit and review the writing of media documents (timelines, briefs/RFPs, media plans, client memos, and analytic reports)
  • Project manage large presentations and provide POV as needed related to the creation of materials supporting those presentations
  • Overall agency logistical direction, including but not limited to: reporting cadence, regular status meetings, office hours, etc

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4-6 years digital media experience, 2+ years’ experience working in bid management/optimization with key Data, Supply and DSP partners such as Google DV360, The Trade Desk, Adobe and Verizon
  • The ability to analyze data, interpret and communicate insights from multiple sources to make complex optimizations - to enhance pace and performance. Coupled with the ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of data.
  • Current knowledge of trends and innovations in programmatic and digital-led media
  • Strong project management skills and ability to delegate and organize
  • Ability to articulate strategic foundation for their development
  • Balanced ability to perform analytically and creatively
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical thinking and mathematical skills
  • Proven leadership skills and management experience
