Job Description

The Assistant, Communications Planning assists in the planning, implementing and maintaining of media campaigns across multiple channels. As an entry level position, the Assistant position represents the start of a media career.

You will be essential in the daily tactical management of the media communications account and requires you to work well in a team-based environment. While advanced Communications Planning thinking is not expected, the successful Assistant is resourceful and shows the initiative to participate in advanced projects.

The Assistant, Communications Planning position is training-intensive. Aptitude for learning new skills (both technical and organic) and procedures is essential. You will be an active participant, increasing participation over time in the position. You will also be encouraged to contribute ideas and insights to benefit our clients.

You Will:

Communications Planning and Execution:

  • Use syndicated planning tools to run reports and develop insights
  • Run and maintain spending reports, and implement baseline assessments of data
  • Gather information to be used in developing media communication plans, such as demographic profiles, media usage habits, and media costs
  • Help with the preparation, development, execution and monitoring of media communication plans for assigned accounts
  • Help maintain flowcharts, buying guidelines, testing plan & results analysis, budget summaries, plan delivery and reports
  • Demonstrate interest and help evaluate existing and latest communications opportunities in general and those which would be relevant to the assigned brand/category
  • Acquire understanding of our client's media AOR and Reach-Based planning process and procedures to help achieve communications planning goals
  • Support CP as back-up contact point for client's internal media staff and for client's brand staff about media plan implementation and maintenance topics
  • Demonstrate multi-tasking ability, keep multiple projects on-track, structuring and executing work

Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Support senior Planners in preparing and delivering work to clients, colleagues
  • Manage internal/client status reports
  • Attend all status meetings
  • With other team members, co-manage relationships with external client vendors
  • May participate and contribute in face to face client meetings
  • Possess professional business acumen in personal and written communications
  • Engage with all work-related contacts in a professional & respectful manner

Strategic Thinking & Leadership:

  • Keep current with market research, agency and client news (industry periodicals, email newsletters, websites)
  • Demonstrate clear active listening skills and ability to apply insights over time
  • Recognize potential issues, know when to escalate and propose solutions
  • Take clear ownership of tasks assigned

Communication Skills:

  • Organize ideas and information logically and sequentially
  • Express oneself clearly and concisely in oral communications
  • Write in a clear, compelling and concise manner

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Strong interest in and familiarity with Media and Communications Planning
  • Desire to learn about marketing and role of communications in it
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn server based software and tools
