Job Description

MuteSix is looking for a process focused Controller to lead the evolution of our Accounting team. You will own the close and consolidation process and will help implement changes and automation to enable timely and accurate reporting. The Controller will also partner with various departments on cross-functional initiatives. In this role you will aid in the development and growth for accounting professionals by acting as a mentor for the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Accounting function for the company
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal decision making
  • Compare performance with operating plans and interpret the results of operations to all levels of management.
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger (accurately recording all appropriate financial transactions and events)
  • Implement effective internal controls, including appropriate expense authorizations, separation of duties
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and guidelines for financial and tax reporting 
  • Provide other managers and departments with information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities
  • Lead the internal team for the annual audit including preparation, process documentation, liaison and response
  • Oversee the month-end close. Design, implement, and maintain appropriate process and policy to enable accurate, and timely financial reporting
  • Provide technical accounting leadership and guidance
  • Set the strategic direction for our financial systems team to ensure the proper automation, auditability and controls on our underlying data sets and records 
  • Oversee all general accounting and control activities, including G/L accounting, month-end close, consolidation, and account reconciliations 
  • Maximize the performance and contribution of each direct and extended team member through mentoring, professional and best practice development, and leading by example
  • Set goals, objectives and priorities for team; assign and review work, facilitate conflict resolution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance and/or Accounting. CPA highly preferred, strong operational and technical accounting background.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience 
  • Prior public accounting, advertising/marketing agency experience a plus
  • A high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
  • Fluency in all aspects of a P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely financial analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Ability to communicate effectively, internally and externally across all levels
  • Familiarity with Quickbooks and Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus
  • The Ability to pivot and be flexible while still maintaining integrity of data/processes. Thrive in a dynamic, high-performance environment.
  • Must have strong knowledge of internal controls, internal & external reporting, and audit processes
  • A leader who gets involved in the business and can appropriately set near and long-term priorities for the team
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet hard deadlines
  • Ability to foster and manage relationships across multiple departments and disciplines to meet aggressive goals and strict deadlines
  • Strong leadership and teamwork aptitude; ability to mentor talent and foster career development
