Job Description

John Brown Media, one of the leading global content marketing agencies and part of Dentsu Aegis, has recently opened an office in San Francisco—and we are looking for an experienced Associate Art Director to join the team for our newest account, Sam’s Club. You will be a part of evolving the visuals and art direction for a large direct mail program, finding creative ways to implement a new aspirational, editorial look and feel that excels across both print and digital formats.

If you're the right fit, you have an editorial or catalog design background, experience briefing and supporting directing photoshoots, especially in the home/lifestyle categories, and are interested in an exciting opportunity to transform a large national retailer’s communications into an engaging and cohesive set of content that captures the attention of customers across all channels. You will report to the team's Creative Director.

Qualifications

You Will:

  • Team up with the Art Director and Creative Director in taking each issue and catalog from mockups through final press-ready files, working on everything from big-picture concepts to production tasks and client amends.
  • Create modern, attention-grabbing layouts that reveal what’s special about the brand and products
  • Understand the brand’s tone and positioning and translate them into compelling editorial visuals and a new look and feel to be implemented in catalogs, direct mail, and promotional materials
  • Work with the design and content team to concept ideas in a visual-forward, editorial-minded way
  • Help create detailed mock-ups and new concepts to share with our client ahead of production
  • Brief and attend photoshoots, capturing assets on-set to work across channels (print and digital)

You Have:

  • A design background and portfolio showing editorial, branded content or catalog design
  • On-set photoshoot experience
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced position
  • Interested in working in a collaborative role
  • Client-facing experience (not mandatory, but nice to have)
  • Digital design portfolio (not mandatory, but nice to have)
  • Sketching (digital or by hand) skills (not mandatory, but nice to have)
  • Photo retouching skills (not mandatory, but nice to have)
