Company Description

By starting your career at Deloitte, you are joining a community of extraordinary professionals who put ‘making an impact’ at the heart of what they do. With our global reach, unwavering support, inclusive atmosphere, and cutting-edge technology, you'll have the opportunity to evolve into your fullest potential.

An intern role at Deloitte is the perfect way to spend your summer and get a taste of what working for Deloitte would look like. You start with a cohort of people just like you, who have finished their penultimate year of study, and are wanting to spend their break getting hands-on experience in the field they are interested in pursuing after graduation. People at Deloitte are the best at what they do and learning from high-performers is a fantastic way to kickstart your growth and career.

Deloitte is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, including the integration and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our solutions. We value adaptability and a growth mindset, recognising that AI is transforming the way organisations operate. By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills that prepare you for the future of work and contribute to shaping how technology drives meaningful impact.

Interns have a two-day induction in their office to understand the corporate environment, what the expectations are, and the role of interns at Deloitte. The internship runs from mid-November (following university exams), has a three week break over Christmas and New Years, and finishes early February before you head back to your final year of university. You will be part of a cohort of 150+ others, all learning collaboratively and building a foundation for your career.

Once you sign your contract with Deloitte, you will start in November that year. Between the application process and your start-date, we have a number of touchpoints including a buddy reaching out to you, so you feel part of the Deloitte whānau before your first day.

If you are interested in pursuing a graduate role at Deloitte after your internship, your buddy and coach can help provide feedback and ensure you make the most of the opportunity. A number of our interns receive a graduate contract at the end of their internship meaning they have secured a job for after university and do not need to apply again! Internships are only available to people with one more year of study. If you are in your final year of study – we hire a number of graduates who didn’t complete internships. For more information about our available roles, see our website.

Job Description

About this role:

As a Junior Digital Product Designer, you will help understand and analyse client problems, design digital product solutions using human‑centred design approaches, and communicate ideas through concepts, wireframes, prototypes, and clear visual storytelling.

In the Customer Strategy & Design (CS&D) team, we use design methodologies to help our clients best understand the needs and behaviours of users, customers, employees and other people involved in delivering services or products.

Equipped with this insight and understanding of the opportunity spaces, we guide clients through the design process to create great product and service experiences that meet the needs of end-users and achieve the desired outcomes for their organisation.

Our work includes: UX design, customer research, customer experience strategy, end-to-end experience visioning, service design, prototyping and testing of future experiences (both digital and physical) and workshop facilitation.

The CS&D Team is led by Auckland-based Deloitte Digital (Customer Portfolio) Partner, Leissa Wheatley.

Your typical day will include:

  • Applying human‑centred design approaches to understand a client’s problem
  • Supporting design research and usability testing by helping conduct interviews or testing sessions
  • Analysing or synthesising qualitative and quantitative data into structured and meaningful information.
  • Participating in design workshops, ideation sessions, and co‑design activities with clients and users
  • Creating digital product concepts, wireframes, user flows, and prototypes in tools like Figma
  • Collaborating with delivery teams by communicating design decisions clearly and helping translate designs into the final product
  • Exploring design trends, tools, and emerging technologies (including AI)
  • Supporting the team with visual communication and design tasks
  • Receiving guidance and mentoring from experienced designers to support your growth

Qualifications

Enough about us, let’s talk about you. You are someone with:

  • Empathy and a genuine passion for understanding people, including their needs, motivations and the behaviours that influence how they engage with digital products.
  • A designer’s mindset and a love of problem solving, with some exposure to digital product design. You may come from product design, visual communication, psychology, information systems, human computer interaction, marketing, business or a similar background.
  • Some experience using design tools such as Figma, Miro and Adobe. We expect that you will be able to learn these tools on the job, but experience with these is preferred.
  • The ability to build connections with a range of people - clients, their customers and our team. Our ideal candidate is someone who can confidently collaborate with the team, build on their own and others’ ideas to bring experiences to life for the client.
