The team you’ll join

We’re looking for a Tax Senior Consultant to join our Wellington-based team. Our Wellington team includes around 45 tax specialists, with a broader national tax practice to draw on, giving you access to an unmatched range of expertise, perspectives, and mentorship.  We are the only tax practice in Wellington offering the full breadth of tax specialisms in one place, supported by deep local capability. 

You could work across all areas of tax, with the freedom to explore different specialisms and shape a career path that fits your strengths and interests. You’ll advise some of Wellington’s largest and most complex organisations on interesting, technically challenging matters. In doing so, you’ll continue to build strong technical capability, develop your commercial judgement, and expand your people and client leadership skills. You’ll be motivated by delivering high‑quality outcomes for clients, contributing meaningfully to the team, and continuing to grow as a tax professional.

Job Description

    The impact you'll make:

    As a Senior Consultant you will be responsible for contributing to and/or managing a portfolio of clients ranging in size and covering a broad range of corporate tax issues. You will demonstrate and develop your capabilities in the following areas:

    • Advising on a wide range of business tax matters from tax compliance to tax planning. Our large tax team provides you with opportunity to grow your generalist tax knowledge together with the ability to focus/ further develop any areas of specialist interest you may have including employment taxes, GST and international tax.
    • Helping clients to identify, manage and mitigate tax risk, meet compliance obligations and statutory deadlines, resolve tax disputes and realise business goals.
    • Influencing clients and the team positively, leading by example and establishing confident relationships with senior people.
    • Applying knowledge of current and pending tax legislation's and understanding interaction across global tax functions, specifically in your areas of expertise. 
    • Fact based decision making by using the appropriate research techniques and skills
    • Improving work efficiency, effectiveness and client service by using common technology tools.
    • Helping clients mitigate risk, meet compliance obligations and statutory deadlines, and realize business goals 
    • Preparing and reviewing income tax returns and tax provisions

    Qualifications

    Your expertise:

    Bring your passion for helping both local and international businesses and see what impact you can make. You'll also have:

    • 3 - 6 years experience in a professional services or corporate tax environment
    • A professional qualification in law or accounting
    • A strong understanding of end to end tax processes & the NZ tax environment
    • Experience in any specialist areas of tax (particularly financial services specialties) would be beneficial (but not essential)
    • Excellent team player and proven organisational and communications skills.
    • Results focused & client oriented. A drive to develop people and grow their career. Serve as a role model for integrity, respect and appreciation of others, including their unique strengths and differences
    • New Zealand tax experience is essential for this role.
