About the Department

Deloitte Tax & Legal is a globally integrated network of professionals providing multidisciplinary tax compliance, advisory, and legal services. Operating in over 150 countries, the firm helps multinational corporations, startups, and high-net-worth individuals navigate complex cross-border regulations and digital transformation

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join our Business Tax team under the Tax & Legal Service Line as a Tax Consultant. This position will be based in our Blantyre office in Malawi, but the successful candidate can also be based in Lilongwe.

Job Description

We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Tax Consultants to join our Business Tax practice. The successful candidates will support the delivery of tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of local and multinational clients. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise in corporate taxation, tax accounting and tax advisory while working alongside experienced tax professionals.

The Tax Consultant will assist in the preparation of tax computations, tax returns, tax research and advisory assignments, while ensuring that client work is delivered accurately, efficiently and in accordance with applicable legislation and professional standards.

The holder of this position will ensure that assignments are carried out to the highest standards in order to provide outstanding value to clients and the Firm; develop high-performing people and teams, leading and supporting them to make an impact that matters; and setting the direction to deliver exceptional client service.

What you will do

  • Tax Compliance
  • Prepare corporate income tax computations and tax returns for review.
  • Assist in the preparation of deferred tax calculations and tax accounting schedules in accordance with IAS 12.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of withholding tax computations and other direct tax obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory filing deadlines and client reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organised engagement documentation.

 

  • Tax Advisory Support
  • Conduct technical tax research on legislation, case law and administrative guidance.
  • Assist in preparing technical memoranda, reports and client presentations.
  • Support advisory engagements relating to corporate taxation, business restructurings, tax planning and tax risk management.
  • Assist in identifying tax implications of business transactions and proposed structures.
  • Support tax due diligence and other transaction-related assignments.

 

  • Client Service
  • Build positive working relationships with clients through professional and responsive service.
  • Communicate effectively with client finance teams to obtain information required for engagements.
  • Respond promptly to client queries under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions.

  • Assist in planning and executing multiple client engagements.
  • Monitor progress of assigned work and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Deliver assignments within agreed timelines and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Progress towards, or willingness to pursue, a professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, CPA or equivalent.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Experience
  • Graduate or up to three years' relevant experience in taxation, accounting or audit.
  • Prior internship or work experience in a professional services environment is advantageous.
  • Experience with corporate tax compliance is desirable but not essential.
  • Tax technical competencies or willingness to learn
