Job Description
The Senior Manager – Decarbonisation / Net Zero will originate, shape and deliver client engagements that support organisations across Africa to set credible net zero strategies, decarbonise operations and value chains, and mobilise capital for the transition. The role combines deep technical capability with strong client leadership, project delivery excellence, and practice-building responsibilities. The role sits within Deloitte Africa Consulting Services in Strategy & Business Design Offering within the Sustainability Team.

As a Senior Manager, you will:
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver tailored strategic solutions for our clients.
- Support Service Line Leadership in delivering projects and engagements.
- Develop high-performing teams, foster collaboration, and set the direction for exceptional client service.
- Build strong client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
- Drive the sales cycle and shape proposal responses including resourcing, budgeting and quality control.
- Champion Deloitte’s purpose, values, and transformation agenda.
Key Responsibilities:
Client advisory & delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of decarbonisation and net zero programmes, including diagnostics, strategy, roadmaps, implementation support and benefits tracking.
- Advise executives on target-setting and transition planning aligned to leading frameworks (e.g., SBTi, TCFD/ISSB, GHG Protocol), tailored to African market realities.
- Develop marginal abatement cost curves (MACCs), decarbonisation levers, and investment cases across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
- Support clients with carbon accounting approaches, data requirements, controls and governance (working with audit/risk counterparts where relevant).
- Integrate climate risk, adaptation and resilience considerations into transition strategies where material.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams (energy, engineering, finance, digital, supply chain) to deliver integrated outcomes.
Business development
- Own or co-own priority accounts and drive pipeline through client relationship management, opportunity identification and value proposition development.
- Lead proposal development (problem framing, approach, pricing, resourcing) and contribute to contract negotiation and mobilisation.
- Represent Africa Consulting Services in client forums, conferences and industry working groups to build market presence.
Practice & capability building
- Build and mentor high-performing teams; coach managers and consultants on both technical and consulting skills.
- Develop reusable assets (methodologies, tools, benchmarks, training) to scale delivery quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to thought leadership relevant to Africa’s transition (power, hard-to-abate sectors, nature, finance, just transition).
- Promote quality, risk management and independence considerations across engagements.
Typical engagements (illustrative)
- Net zero strategy, transition planning and implementation roadmaps for corporates and public sector entities.
- Emissions baseline development and improvement plans for GHG data, systems and governance.
- Decarbonisation opportunity assessment and MACC for industrial operations and portfolios.
- Scope 3 hotspot analysis, supplier engagement strategy and value chain interventions.
- Apply risk management tools and techniques to drive operational efficiencies that derive intended climate benefits e.g. GHG emission reduction.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Tertiary degree in Environmental Sciences, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Computer Science, Marketing Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
- An MBA or Masters in a relevant field is an advantage.
- Professional Certifications e.g. Professional Natural Scientist (SACNASP), Certified Risk Management Professional (IRMSA) or equivalent.
Experience:
- 7–10 years’ experience, including at least 5 years in a client-facing and management role in Strategic Advisory.
- Experience with a Tier-One Professional Services Firm and/or blue-chip organisation.
- Deep knowledge in one or more industry sectors (e.g., Energy, Mining, Government, Donor Funded Infrastructure Programmes e.g. Just Energy Transition).
- Proven track record in leading and managing strategic projects and teams.

- Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic insights, manage client relationships, and drive profitable engagements.
