Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

The Senior SQL Consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Designing, implementing, and optimising SQL database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms.
  2. Ensuring high availability, performance, and security of database systems.
  3. Writing and optimising complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
  4. Implementing and managing database security, including access controls and encryption.
  5. Designing and executing robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  6. Proactively monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining database health and stability.
  7. Deploying and managing SQL databases in cloud platforms such as Azure SQL or AWS RDS.
  8. Applying patches, upgrades, and continuous performance optimisation of database systems.
  9. Ensuring data integrity, compliance, and comprehensive documentation.
  10. Providing accurate reporting and insights to support business operations and decision-making.
  11. Assisting with database upgrades and migrations via the Change Request Process.
  12. Offering guidance on database design, architecture, and best practices.

Key activities include daily system checks, weekly storage validation, monthly performance reviews, and annual disaster recovery plan updates.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ proven experience in SQL database administration and consultancy roles.
  • Strong background in both on-premises SQL Server environments and cloud-based database solutions (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Certification(s) in Microsoft SQL Server, AWS Database Administration, or equivalent (advantageous).
  • Experience working in large, complex environments with high availability and mission-critical databases.
