Job Description

Responsible for the management of the Finance and Operations function for Deloitte Namibia. This includes overseeing all accounting activities and ensuring the ledger accurately reflects the position of the firm through responsibility of closing the accounting records and account reconciliations.

The function entails control, accuracy, and completeness over the following:

  •  Appropriate governance is applied by the Finance Team, ensuring accurate general ledger processing;
  • Reviews month-end reconciliation processes (Blackline - balance sheet recon system);
  • GL SAP regression testing;
  • Fixed assets;
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable;
  • Staff accounts;
  • Payroll;
  • Expense claims; and
  • Partner accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Complies with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions. 
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Independently delivers quality work within area of expertise, within deadlines. 
  • Provides client/s with sound professional advice and support on issues arising within area of expertise. 
  • Applies solutions to technical issues that arise within area of expertise.
  • Communicates regularly with all relevant stakeholders to meet deliverable expectations in specific area of expertise.
  • Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances and making investments.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Shares expertise and knowledge with team members.  
  • Actively works to address development areas identified. 
  • Coaches / mentors team members of the team.
  • Proactively identifies technical problems that arise that may affect delivery and propose resolutions to address these. 
  • Independently delivers on designated tasks within area of expertise.
  • Provides detailed reporting on status of deliverables on a regular basis. 
  • Manages risk in area of engagement in alignment with Deloitte policies and processes.
  • Reviews own work prior to submission to ensure quality and provide guidance to junior team members on quality standards.

Budgeting, Forecasting and Target setting for the Country

  • Provide support to the Africa Service Line BPs with budgeting and forecasting for the country service lines
  • Provide support to the Africa Service Line BPs with budget and forecast commentary and analysis for the Country as required 

Financial Reporting for the Country

  • Prepares monthly management reports (according to Country requirements) 
  • Provides country input into the monthly results for Regional level reporting
  • Reviews the balance sheet and income statement for the Country  
  • Reports Country performance against KPIs and North Stars
  • Analyses Country utilization and productivity 
  • Analyses and drive target achievement for the Country

Strategic analyses and driving target achievement for the Country

  • Conducts financial analysis and insights 
  • Analyses performance and efficiency
  • Provides strategic financial advice
  • Supports the Country to manage working capital 
  • Interrogates working capital and revenue before and after Project Services rollover 
  • Implements cost reduction plans for the Country
  • Drives improved profitability

Transactional oversight, including but not limited to: 

  • Leading the in-Country finance accountant to ensure accurate processing and reporting  
  • Manages a high performing in-Country finance team by providing leadership, role clarity, training and career development 
  • Leads in maintaining, amending and communication of general ledger policies and procedures
  • Approvals, Reviews and Requests & Controls
  • Reviews overall trial balance
  • Reviews and approves journals (including manual journals to project codes)
  • Reviews balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Reviews debtors and creditors monthly 
  • Assists with escalated debt collection 
  • Review the Payroll and related journals 
  • Approves credit notes 
  • Approves purchase requests/orders
  • Approves expense claims
  • Approves general journals to cost centers
  • Requests accruals and provisions to be raised
  • Review Fixed Assets
  • Implements internal controls where applicable
  • Drives financial disciplines
  • Reviews revenue monthly 
  • Reviews and approves payments
  • Responsible for the overall Country Finance Governance 
  • Management of all supplier and rental contracts
  • Assist in cash flow management
  • Reviews NAMRA submissions

Other

  • Supports in-country management on engagement management as needed
  • Supervise the operational function of the office – driver, receptionist and office assistant
  • Supervise the administration of insurance policies 
  • Prepares partnership tax accounts and calculates partnership drawings and manages other partner affairs
  • Assist with annual external audits for subsidiary entities, including tax return submissions.
     

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • A relevant three (3) year tertiary qualification with Honours.  Specialisation in Financial Accounting.

Desired Qualification:

  • CA designation, Master’s degree, CIMA, and MBA will be advantageous.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years post qualification experience.

Desired Experience:

  • Seven (7) years post qualification experience.
