Job Description
- Provide support to Senior Manager and Africa Tax Leader in respect of the general tax compliance function of the entities forming part of Deloitte South Africa (DSA). Said function includes, but is not limited to, income tax, value added tax (VAT) and other compliance processes of DSA.
- Above includes, managing and taking primary responsibility for the preparation of the DSA Partnership annual income tax computation to support Partners’ income tax compliance, as well as the preparation of the income tax computations and completion of income tax returns of the legal entities owned by the Partnership.
- Acts as primary contact with SARS, and to prepare appropriate responses to SARS queries, objections to assessments.

- Support Deloitte Africa Chief Tax Officer and Africa Tax Leader in managing tax compliance services to DSA in order to ensure delivery in line with the defined strategic objectives:
- Provides support to Firm Taxes management in the implementation of change initiatives to improve compliance and governance processes.
- Work and interact with Business Partners in the broader finance team to prioritise and complete work by set deadlines, as well as to attend timeously to queries.
- Raise and manage effective solutions to address issues in area of expertise that may enhance / renew tax compliance and governance processes.

- Independently and pro-actively manages and delivers quality work within area of expertise, within deadlines.
- Provides DSA entities with sound professional tax technical and tax compliance advice and support on issues arising within area of expertise.
- Applies solutions to tax technical and tax system issues that arise within area of expertise, with minimal input from management.
- Proactively researches latest thought leadership within area of expertise and share with team as input to improve delivery to DSA entities.
- Communicates regularly with both line manager and DSA entities (Business Partners and Public Officers) to meet deliverable expectations in specific area of expertise

VAT returns
- Collate information by interaction with the respective DSA businesses and legal entities to ensure the various administrative actions are completed timeous and submission of statutory prescribed VAT returns on e-Filing for all DSA entities.
- Responsible for and manage the creation of payment instructions in respect of payments due, and ensuring timeous payments of amounts due to SARS.
- Collate information for monthly reconciliation of internal VAT accounts and SARS VAT statements of account.
- Responsible for reconciliation of SARS VAT statements of account for all DSA legal entities
- Draft and manage all appropriate correspondence and interaction with SARS via e-Filing and where appropriate the SARS liaison officer, including managing disputes with SARS.
Income tax
- Manage and complete the annual and provisional income tax calculations and returns for all DSA entities:
- Collate all various information for timeous completion of the tax calculations and returns by interacting with the respective Business Partners
- Manage creating payment instructions in respect of payments due, and ensuring timeous payments of amounts due to SARS.
- Responsible for reconciliation of SARS income tax statements of account for all DSA legal entities
- Draft and prepare of all correspondence and interaction with SARS via e-Filing and where appropriate the SARS liaison officer, including reviewing income tax assessments and drafting, managing and submitting disputes with SARS.
Approving of zero-rated billing instructions
- Manage and attend to approvals for zero rated billing instructions.
- Responsible for and ensuring retention of supporting documentation for SARS audit purposes.
Other
- 90-day debtor payment management
- Obtaining of tax clearance certificates for all DSA entities
- Manage and coordinate with business to ensure the obtaining of foreign withholding tax certificates for all DSA entities within agreed time frames.
Technical competencies
- In-depth know-how of the South African Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, VAT Act and regulations, and SARS’ tax compliance requirements and practices
- Strong working knowledge of e-Filing and other SARS systems
- Experience with tax compliance technology tools and solutions
- Analytical thinking and problem solving, including selecting appropriate methods for collating and analysing information.
- Ability to provide initial recommendations based on current tax legislation to tax leadership
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BCom Degree
- Postgraduate qualification:
- Honours Tax
- Higher Diploma (Tax) (highly advantageous)
Minimum Experience
- 4-5 years in Finance (with exposure to tax accounting)
