Our Financial Advisory team specialises in taking facts and figures and then adding insight and expertise to maximise value and impact for our clients. Our integrated approach means our clients enjoy ‘one point of call’ that encompasses every aspect of a transaction.

Our Financial Advisory – Turnaround & Restructuring team works closely with:

  • Management and boards of distressed companies to stabilise crisis situations, helping to turnaround underperforming businesses and (when necessary) help them to restructure their balance sheets; and
  • Lenders to companies in distress who require advice throughout a restructuring negotiation alongside analytical support and insight (e.g. liquidity reviews and independent business reviews of borrowers).

About the Job

As an Associate Director in the Financial Advisory team, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of engagements across all sectors, with responsibility for leading on-the-ground teams, managing and coaching junior staff and supporting the partners and directors in client-facing delivery.

The nature of work that you will get involved in may include:

Managing specific work streams on financial restructuring engagements on a day to day basis, including:

  • Project managing parts of the engagement, providing support to the director/partner in managing external stakeholders as well as managing T&R team members and other service line teams involved
  • Supporting management teams in preparing and challenging business plans, short term cash flow forecasts and restructuring plans
  • Developing, analysing and presenting restructuring options using input from other teams, where applicable
  • Liaising with the Company’s lawyers to understand key aspects of legal documentation including the documentation processes (term sheets, waivers, loan documentation etc.)
  • Managing small teams and creating effective delegation and development opportunities for individual team members
  • Understanding and actively managing the Firm’s risk from take-on through to completion of engagements
  • Actively support business development activities using your own contact network as well as supporting partner-led marketing and sales activities

  • Identify and pursue potential opportunities using your own network as well as participating in existing business development programmes and key client accounts
  • Identify opportunities to expand jobs as well as opportunities to provide wider Deloitte services to existing clients
  • Lead marketing initiatives aimed at specific channels to market, or events

Actively support practice and talent development: 

  • Provide on-job coaching and development to staff
  • Develop junior staff outside of jobs through appraising and mentoring
  • Support wider training initiatives

Qualifications

To qualify, you should have the following skills:

 

  • Financial restructuring experience gained either as a senior advisor within a professional services firm, consultancy, investment bank or in a workout/ restructuring team (minimum of 7 years)
  • Strong understanding of debt markets, banking, loan agreements and other relevant financial and legal documentation
  • Good understanding of the restructuring marketplace, its trends and key players (principals and advisers)
  • A developing network of relevant contacts in the market
  • Very strong analytical skills, including: business analytics, business planning, short term cash flows, financing options. A basic understanding of business rescue legislation and practice is not a prerequisite but helpful
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of leading clients/ providing advice in difficult situations
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to lead teams and develop people
  • Commitment and willingness to work under pressure, sometimes long hours, always putting the client at the centre
  • Flexibility to transfer skills into complementary offerings such as Debt Advisory or Turnaround and Performance Improvement if market conditions change
  • Ambition to learn and develop further
  • Ability to conduct business in fluent oral and written English is a pre-requisite
