Deloitte (Uganda) Limited currently has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join our Tax, Legal & BPS - Tax team as a Business Tax Manager. Job Description

Main purpose of the job

The incumbent will ensure that all assignments are carried out to the highest standards in order to provide outstanding value to clients and the Firm. This role will encompass support of our clients primarily in the area of tax operating model and tax governance implementation. This role sits at the heart of what we do as a Tax Management Consulting team.

What you will do

  • Support the Partner on delivery of designated engagements / projects, managing the implementation of the agreed deliverables;
  • Build trusted client relationships with finance and tax leaders across a portfolio of organizations;
  • Lead project teams to deliver quality consulting projects to a range of businesses in adherence to the Firm’s approved procedures and methodologies;
  • Use your knowledge of tax best practice operations and governance to advise clients on all aspects of their tax operating models including assessing impact of changes in tax law and accounting principles
  • Work across a range of industries (including Financial Services, Consumer Business, Energy & Resources, Technology, Media and Telecommunications);
  • Help develop and implement strategic plans for growing the Tax Management Consulting practice;
  • Mentor more junior members of the team, playing an active role in their development;
  • Manage diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution;
  • Track outputs against Service Level Agreement and report to Partner on any unforeseen issues arising;
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals/tenders, sales presentations and client negotiation for new and retained business;
  • Build relationships across Deloitte service lines to understand broader offerings and seeks opportunities for cross-selling;
  • Generate innovative solutions on projects / engagements in collaboration with team members to enhance / renew service offerings to client;
  • Contribute to the regional and business areas winning business strategy and targets, including contribution to Industry Manager initiatives and cross service line selling and collaboration;
  • Manage engagement budget through accurate budgeting, cost control and profitability management;
  • Manage Work In Progress on engagement and ensure billings are timeously done and collections followed up;
  • Apply knowledge of current tax and proposed/pending legislation, their implications, and understands interaction across the Global Tax and Legal function, specifically with their area of expertise;
  • Demonstrate subject matter specialty and ability to share knowledge in one or more service lines within the Global Tax and Legal function;
  • Enable fact-based decision making by using appropriate research techniques and analytical skills;
  • Improve work efficiency, effectiveness, and client service by using common technology tools; and,
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

  •  A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, International Business Management, Law or Economics or any other relevant field;
  • Additional professional qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Chartered Accountancy (CA), Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT), industrial or other professional certifications that denote specific technical, business, or industry qualification relevant to the required area of work) will be an added advantage;
  • At least Seven (7) years of professional experience in tax practice in a reputable firm/ Revenue Authority and/or industry experience with at least two (2) years in a managerial role;
  • Strong understanding of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) processes related to business tax e.g. assessments, penalty regimes, information requests;
  • Experience leading client interactions and client management, either on full projects or on specific elements of a client relationship;
  • Be a Ugandan citizen or eligible to work in Uganda.
