Job Description

Main Purpose of Job:

To be a member of the Deloitte internal tax team providing advice on applicable taxes and related matters in relation to cross-border transactions of Deloitte South Africa. 
This role will collaborate with key stakeholders and will specifically support Deloitte’s global assignment strategy, policies, and processes in order to maximise effectiveness, minimise cost and monitor compliance from a tax perspective.

Internal clients 

  • Prepare and provide tax advice on cross-border engagements, including advising on withholding taxes, permanent establishments, interpretation and application of double tax agreements, transfer pricing, gross-up calculations, South African and foreign VAT, and exchange control regulations
  • Provide tax calculations reflecting said advice
  • Review contracts/proposals from a tax perspective, and provide appropriate tax clauses to be included in the contracts/proposals
  • Assist in creating appropriate tax policies, workflows, and procedural documents to enhance tax risk management 
  • Ensure international tax compliance with regard to foreign tax registrations, lodging of foreign tax authority specific documents, etc.

General 

  • Having business acumen and insight when providing tax analysis, managing taxes, and advising on the resolution of tax disputes
  • Contribution towards improving tax advice and tax clause templates, increasing process efficiencies, and assisting the internal tax team as and when required with various matters

Monitoring

  • Maintain and apply relevant monitoring processes relating to the implementation of tax advice in respect of cross-border engagements 
  • Alert management when tax risks and/or obligations may be triggered

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, including Taxation as a subject up to third year level 
  • Postgraduate qualification in Taxation would be beneficial

Experience Required: 

  • 3+ years’ working experience within a relevant tax function
  • Strong industry background within a technical tax function
  • Strong knowledge of international tax and practical experience advising on cross-border services transactions will be advantageous 

Key Competencies Required:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to perform in-depth tax research are essential for this role 
  • Must be able to act independently
  • Strong report writing ability 
  • Strong skills in MS Office
  • Positive, and enthusiastic attitude and willing to accept new challenges
