Our Financial Advisory-Restructuring Services team works closely with:

Management and boards of distressed companies to stabilise crisis situations, helping to turnaround underperforming businesses and (when necessary) help them to restructure their balance sheets; and

Lenders to companies in distress who require advice throughout a restructuring negotiation alongside analytical support and insight (e.g. liquidity reviews and independent business reviews of borrowers).

Main Purpose of Job

Your primary responsibility as an experienced Restructuring Services Advisory professional will be to advise boards, management teams, lenders and shareholder of companies which are underperforming and/or facing financial issues.

The nature of work that you will get involved in may include:

1. Providing oversight on specific workstreams on financial restructuring engagements on a day to day basis, including:

  • Managing external stakeholders as well as managing Restructuring Services' team members and other service line teams involved
  • Supporting management teams in preparing and challenging business plans, short term cash flow forecasts and restructuring plans
  • Advising on restructuring options using input from all teams, where applicable
  • Liaising with the Company’s lawyers to understand key aspects of legal documentation and also drive any documentation processes (term sheets, waivers, loan documentation etc.)
  • Leading the team and creating development opportunities for individual team members
  • Understanding and actively managing the Firm’s risk from take-on through to completion of engagements

2. Actively drive business development activities using your own contact network

  • Identify and pursue potential opportunities using your own network as well as participating in existing business development programmes and key client accounts
  • Identify opportunities to expand jobs as well as opportunities to provide wider Deloitte services to existing clients
  • Lead marketing initiatives aimed at specific channels to market, or events

3. Actively drive practice and talent development

  • Responsibility for development of staff
  • Support wider training initiatives

The team increasingly works on cross-border, multi-jurisdictional situations so it is likely that there will be opportunities to work on large and exciting cases in conjunction with colleagues in Deloitte member firms across Africa and worldwide.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum CA(SA) / CFA or Honors Financial Management or equivalent financial qualification
  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years of Financial restructuring experience gained as a senior advisor within a professional services firm, consultancy or investment bank or in a workout/ restructuring team (preferable: 5 years in a leadership position)
  • Ability and experience in interacting at boardroom level, with various stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal skills and evidence of leading clients/ providing advice in difficult situations
  • Strong understanding of debt markets, banking, loan agreements and other relevant financial and legal documentation
  • Strong understanding of the restructuring marketplace, its trends and key players (principals and advisers)
  • Ability to lead teams and develop people
  • Complementary skills such as Debt Advisory or Turnaround and Performance Improvement if market conditions change
