About YALI Regional Leadership Centre East Africa

The YALI Regional Leadership Center (RLC) East Africa (also known as the Center), located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi serves 14 countries in East and Central Africa. The Center is overseen by Deloitte East Africa and is supported by a growing number of public and private partners. It is a public-private partnership, capitalizing on the energy and dynamism of the private sector, the knowledge of African and American institutions, and the programmatic and educational resources of the U.S. Government. The Center will focus on engaging young East and Central African leaders from a wide range of organizations and backgrounds and with a diversity of experiences.

Main Purpose of Job

We are seeking to recruit a mature and result-oriented Alumni and Volunteer Relations Manager for YALI Regional Leadership Center - East Africa. The holder of this position will report to the Partnerships Manager, and will be responsible for Alumni engagement strategy, relationship management, mentorship coordination and business development. S/he will be the primary Centre focal point for YALI Africa alumni engagement.

Job Description

  • Oversee country focused alumni strengthening initiatives across the 14 Chapters in line with the Centers new alumni engagement and development strategy.
  • Work closely with alumni chapter leaders in supporting strategic alumni initiatives, relationship development, and business development opportunities.
  • Organize and coordinate alumni functions with special responsibility for the following: local and regional chapters, alumni publications, fund raising, recognition and awards, reunions, other special events and services.
  • Work with Partnerships manager and the Country Alumni Chapters to develop portfolio of prospective funders, partners and stakeholders to support the implementation of alumni initiatives.
  • Maintain the integrity of the alumni database ensuring that it is updated at all times.
  • Manage and measure impact, including tracking best practices and processes for replication of high quality and consistent planning and execution.
  • Oversee and ensure effective communication, vetting and disbursement of the Transformation Fund to qualifying alumni.
  • Lead the coordination of all Center-related alumni events, working closely with YALI Africa Alumni working group and other USG initiatives in the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in marketing/sales, public relations, communication or any other related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 year’s demonstrable experience in relationship management and business development.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and in written English. French desirable.
  • Demonstrable event planning and organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • In-depth understanding of historical and emerging trends in the youth development.
  • Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
