About the Division 

The value that Deloitte Risk Advisory Africa creates for organisations is synonymous with operational excellence.  Governance Regulatory & Risk services help organisations protect and enhance value by managing risks and opportunities, addressing compliance and supporting management and board oversight, including internal audit, through out-of-the-box solutions with the view to turning risks into value-creating opportunities.  

Main Purpose of Job

Supports Engagement Manager/Senior Manager/Associate Director/Director in delivery of services to / at client premises on delegated engagement / project.  Focus on the delivery of client engagements and shares knowledge and experience with others. Understands objectives for clients and aligns own work to objectives.

Support the Engagement Manager in delivery of engagement / project, in specific area of competency

• Raise issues with manager as identified in area of focus that may affect the quality of delivery or timelines of the engagement 
• Identify opportunities for follow-on work and work with management to win the business

• Actively build business relationships that generate leads
• Gather information to understand broader offerings of Deloitte and seek opportunities for cross-selling

• Business Process Assessment and Design
• Ability to perform complex business process assessments and design solutions to improve client’s operational efficiency and compliance
• Defines process ownership, boundaries, and interfaces to clarify process scope and responsibilities
• Applies a combination of information gathering techniques (e.g., interviews, analytical observations, artifacts analysis) to collect reliable and comprehensive data
• Documents complex business processes by applying a variety of techniques, tools, and technologies to identify operational inefficiencies and non-compliant situations
• Interacts with business and functional stakeholders to validate current state assessment

3.   Internal Controls Assessment and Design

Ability to evaluate internal control design issues, develop mitigation plans, and assess and design internal controls procedures and policies

• Leads interactions with client’s business stakeholders to gather key information on controls components (e.g., control environment, risk assessment, control activities) to enable a comprehensive assessment
• Employs an analytics and technology-driven approach to controls assessment to enable real-time analysis and data-driven decisions
• Independently performs testing of internal controls for design and operating effectiveness
• Drives analysis of control deficiencies to prioritize gaps and develop targeted mitigation plans
• Assesses and develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and alignment with business goals and objectives

4.   Data Analytics and Technology

 Ability to conduct complex business analyses, leveraging a variety of tools and technologies to support project goals and objectives

• Leads the Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) step, managing client’s interactions during the process and overseeing junior staff, as appropriate

Ability to assess client’s control frameworks and provide robust and value-adding recommendations

• Keeps in mind the engagement type, scope, and objectives when identifying risks and assessing impact on financial statements, business processes, and internal controls over financial reporting
• Ensures timely resolution of controls failing by engaging with and advising appropriate internal or external stakeholders
• Keeps up-to-date with changes in Deloitte proprietary approaches and applicable standards and guidelines to enhance effectiveness of engagements
• Increases standardization and quality of testing by leveraging relevant Deloitte frameworks

• A Degree in IT/IS/Computer Science/Business/Accounting
• Practical experience with data tools such as MySQL, Access/Excel, SQL-Server, SAS, ACL, Idea, Qlik, Tableau, Spotfire or R.
• Practical experience with programming languages such as SQL, ABAP, Java, C# or .Net.
• Three (3) years  data management and/or data analytics experience in a
• External Audit experience would be an added advantage
• Demonstrated ability with assisting businesses in deriving value from existing data
