Main Purpose of Job

The role of the Chief of Staff is both managerial and advisory so as to increase the bandwidth and velocity of the MD in such a way as to concentrate his time, effort and priorities on strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have the acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, balancing long term projects with the urgency of immediate operational demands. This needs to be supplemented with great interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.

He or she must also have the demonstrated ability to deal with highly confidential information and act as a liaison between the MD and other constituencies, both internal and external. Some travelling should be expected, largely within the African continent.

While the Chief of Staff will not have direct reports he/she must exhibit the skills to collaborate with others and be able to achieve actionable results through others.  He/she must have the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact at all levels of the organisation. The ideal candidate will also be able to work effectively in a fast paced and project driven environment with constantly changing demands, and must possess energy, have superb engagement skills and a passion for growing Deloitte.

 Specialized Technical capabilities

General:

  • Support the Risk Advisory MD in planning, directing, managing and coordinating day-to-day business activities with Ad-hoc analysis and decision support. 
  • Support the Strategic leader on strategy related projects, maintain the Strategic Plan, organise and arrange strategy sessions.
  • Coordinate all business activities (local and global) required of the Risk Advisory MD, as directed.
  • Prepare agendas, briefings, and preparation materials for meetings, appointments, and events.
  • Work closely with other staff to gather agenda items, briefing notes, and other materials, as needed.
  • Distribute Meeting materials in advance of meetings.
  • Risk Advisory MD report back & roadshows, various, business speeches & presentations.
  • Preparation and submission of data/ information to Firm’s central team and to global functional teams.

Strategic Projects:

  • Executive project oversight: Acts on the authority of the office of the Risk Advisory MD to oversee strategic projects.
  • Leads and executes change projects aimed at creating a common purpose and behavior across the African member firms.
  • Coordinating projects that involve working with all levels of internal management and staff

Stakeholder interactions:

  • Conducting research to keep up to date on things that are important to the Firm and the Risk Advisory business.
  • You will have the ability to interpret information for strategic relevance and impact based on detailed analysis and review.
  • Interacting with the Global office, local and Africa wide committees, and other constituencies on behalf of the Risk Advisory MD.

Qualifications

  • A relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a professional services or related environment.
  • Experience managing complex and unstructured programmes and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to run and facilitate senior leadership meetings, workshops, project meetings. Experience in working with senior management and executives and managing teams.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and analysis skills.
