YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa

On July 28, 2014, the United States Government announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs) in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa as part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Since 2015, these Centers have improved the availability and quality of leadership training programs and professional development opportunities for young African leaders. The Centers focus on engaging young leaders from a wide range of organizations and backgrounds and with a diversity of experiences.

The Regional Leadership Centers:

  • Provide Quality Leadership Training: Centers provide courses on leadership and issues across multiple sectors.

  • Support Entrepreneurship: Centers provide entrepreneurship support services, including mentoring, technology, and access to capital.

  • Enhance Professional Networking: Centers offer young leaders the opportunity to connect with each other, experienced professionals, and experts from across the region.

Deloitte East Africa, in partnership with a diverse group of private sector, public sector and NGO partners, is working with USAID to implement the Young Africa Leaders Regional Leadership Center in East Africa (YALI EA RLC).

Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the Learning and Curriculum department, is to continuously improve RLC participant outcomes through the seamless integration of faculty experience and wisdom with curriculum development process expertise. The Learning and Curriculum analyst will be tasked with assisting to create world class leadership development programs with an African focus.

Key Performance areas

  • Participate in the development/facilitation/review/assessment of facilitator led curriculum to ensure that program is meeting intended objectives and requirements;

  • Assist in the design, utilization and operation of the RLC’s online learning platform, ensuring that it is synergetic with the Center’s overall learning environment and liaise with the platform provider to ensure proper maintenance, coordinate action on participant issues and ensure ongoing upgrading of the hardware/software;

  • Apply research and data to create and  improve content, sequence, and outcomes of the facilitating-learning process and maintain a research database that may be utilized to develop and review curriculum;

  • Research and work in conjunction with the Partnerships department to find potential Clients for the YALI RLC EA self-sponsored programs.

  • Prepare all the necessary learning material needed by both participants and facilitators.

  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including participants’ achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness and recommendations on curricula improvement;

  • Coordinate facilitators’ and participants’ needs at the Center including space, pre/post training surveys, design challenges and field trips;

  • Coordinate and facilitate interaction with participants including VIP visits, orientation and commencement ceremonies;

  • Deputize and assist the Learning and Curriculum Lead; and

  • Prepare reports and minutes as required including quarterly project reports.

Technical competencies

  • Excellent verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent report writing skills; and

  • Good research capacity, data analysis and information management skills.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be a YALI RLC EA Alumni;
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree preferably in development, education, psychology or human capital;
  • Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a learning environment, training and/or facilitation;
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written english.
  • Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design and development of curriculum, including delivery of virtual content, group work, gender relevant material, and attentive to the needs of disabled participants.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
