Job Description

The Vice President, US Market Access is responsible for developing and executing the market access strategy to ensure that patients, providers, and payers have appropriate, timely, and sustainable access to the company’s portfolio of rare oncology therapies and future specialty products.

This role leads a team of approximately 15 professionals covering payer strategy and contracting, patient access services, field access operations, government reimbursement, and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR). The Vice President serves as a key member of the US Commercial Leadership Team, partnering closely with colleagues in Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Commercial Insights & Operations, and New Product Planning to shape and deliver the overall U.S. commercial strategy.

The incumbent also provides strategic input and commercial perspective to business development opportunities evaluated by the company’s parent organization, ensuring that U.S. payer and access dynamics are fully considered in opportunity assessments and valuation.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Market Access Strategy and Leadership – 30%
    • Define and implement the U.S. market access strategy to optimize reimbursement, formulary positioning, and patient access for all marketed and pipeline products.
    • Lead the development of pricing, contracting, and payer engagement strategies across public and private segments.
    • Ensure alignment of access strategies with corporate objectives, brand positioning, and global market access priorities.
    • Serve as the senior expert on U.S. payer policy, reimbursement trends, and value demonstration strategies for rare oncology and specialty indications.
  • Team and Organizational Leadership – 10%
  • Manage and develop a cross-functional market access team of 15 professionals across patient services, government reimbursement, field access, and HEOR.
  • Build a high-performing, collaborative team culture focused on patient impact, operational excellence, and compliance.
  • Provide mentorship and development to future leaders within the Market Access organization.
  • Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) – 10%
    • Oversee HEOR strategy to support product value communication, formulary decision-making, and health technology assessments.
    • Guide the generation of real-world evidence and economic models to demonstrate clinical and economic value to payers and providers.
    • Ensure that HEOR activities are integrated into brand planning and life-cycle management strategies.
  • Patient Access and Reimbursement – 20%
  • Direct patient support program strategy and operations to minimize barriers to access and maximize adherence.
  • Oversee field access team activities to ensure consistent, compliant engagement with healthcare providers and payer organizations.
  • Ensure reimbursement support and affordability programs are aligned with patient needs and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Cross-Functional and Strategic Collaboration – 20%
    • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Medical Affairs to ensure coordinated commercial execution and unified messaging across customer segments.
    • Collaborate with Commercial Insights & Operations to inform forecasting, access analytics, and performance measurement.
    • Work closely with New Product Planning to ensure payer insights and market access considerations inform early-stage asset development and launch readiness planning.
    • Contribute to business development assessments, providing payer and pricing expertise for in-licensing, co-promotion, or acquisition opportunities.
  • Governance and Compliance – 10%
  • Ensure all Market Access activities adhere to company policies, U.S. regulatory and legal requirements, and industry codes of conduct.
  • Establish appropriate performance metrics and governance frameworks to monitor access outcomes and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, health economics, business, public policy, or a related field.
    • 15+ years of progressive experience in U.S. market access, managed markets, or payer strategy roles within the biopharmaceutical industry.
    • Demonstrated success leading market access and reimbursement strategies for rare disease, oncology, or specialty products.
    • Proven experience managing patient services, field access, or reimbursement support operations.
    • Strong leadership record managing and developing high-performing, cross-functional teams.
    • Deep understanding of U.S. payer systems, including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid segments.
    • Experience integrating market access strategy with commercial, medical, and HEOR functions.
    • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with ability to interpret complex data and apply insights to strategy.
    • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with ability to engage effectively at executive and operational levels.
  • Preferred Capabilities
    • Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD, or related graduate degree) preferred.
    • Direct experience launching new oncology or rare disease products in the U.S. market.
    • Familiarity with global pricing and access frameworks and collaboration within a multinational organization.
    • Experience contributing to business development evaluations, due diligence, and asset valuation from a payer/access perspective.
    • Proven ability to navigate complex policy and reimbursement landscapes and anticipate evolving payer trends.
    • Demonstrated ability to foster cross-functional alignment and build consensus in a matrixed environment.
    • Strong strategic mindset with a balance of innovative thinking and disciplined execution.

Additional Information

Deciphera is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary pay range for this role is $292,000 - $402,000. Actual compensation packages will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to depth of experience, education, skillset, overall performance and/or location.​
