Job Description

DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is looking for a motivated and skilled Equipment Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing repairs and conducting routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools, ensuring they remain in top working condition. You will work closely with the Shop Manager to maintain a safe and efficient fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assess and prioritize repairs, addressing urgent issues and ensuring timely completion.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to evaluate the condition of vehicles and equipment, identifying worn or damaged parts.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Install component upgrades and perform corrosion control measures to extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Assist in the fabrication of new equipment and the assembly of custom builds as directed.
  • Address mechanical deficiencies by disassembling, repairing, adjusting, and overhauling major assemblies and systems such as powertrains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, hydraulics, and vegetation spray systems.
  • Complete tasks in the machine shop, including adjustments, alignments, bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Conduct test drives and adjust vehicle controls and systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Verify that vehicles meet federal and state standards for engine performance, safety, and emission control.
  • Provide emergency repair support in the field as needed in case of breakdowns or equipment failure.
  • Maintain shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Manage shop supplies by conducting regular inventories, ordering necessary parts, and verifying the receipt of materials.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Technical education or training in mechanics is preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of clean driving history.
  • CDL Class B preferred.
  • Experience with heavy truck repair (gas and diesel engines) is required.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check.
  • Experience working with small hand tools such as chainsaws, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
  • At least 3 years of experience operating ATVs, UTVs, skid steers, mini-excavators, and farm tractors.
  • Overtime availability is a plus.
  • Must own personal tools and be proficient in their use for the trade.
  • Manual dexterity is essential for performing mechanical tasks.
