Job Description

Position Title: Development Officer, Leadership Giving, Quebec

Terms: Full-time, Permanent (34 hours / 4-day week)

Location: Based at our Montreal office, with remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic

Reporting to: Director, Development & Strategic Partnerships

Salary: $70-80K, based on experience

About the Role

You are a fearless connector who’s confident talking to people from all walks of life. You love engaging with donors to help them understand the meaningful difference their support can make.

You’ll be responsible for a fundraising portfolio of over $1M annually. You will build and engage a robust pipeline of prospects while stewarding current donors to increase organizational capacity. You’ll communicate the David Suzuki Foundation’s values and showcase our programs effortlessly.

You have direct experience with major gift fundraising and working with high-net-worth individuals. You have a passion for writing compelling proposals and reports. You are proactive, self-motivated, and know how to achieve great fundraising results.

Above all, you are passionately committed to achieving the highest standards and consistently exceeding expectations in all aspects of your work.

You must be fluent in French and English, both written and verbal, and confident in talking to people from all walks of life.   

Responsibilities

  • Secure gifts of $10K and above from leadership donors – comprised of individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Track all interactions in the CRM (Raiser’s Edge NXT).
  • Maintain and update information and activities in the donor database.
  • Collaborate with other development staff to steward current major funders through regular updates and invitations to events, facilitate contact with other DSF staff.
  • Support special events in the region, including fundraising events and donor cultivation and recognition events.
  • Write compelling proposals and applications for initiatives in need of funding.
  • Develop and manage reporting and communication with funders and donors.
  • Coordinate with staff in DSF’s other departments to monitor, evaluate and report on program results.
  • Work closely with the development committee board member in Montreal to strategically steward their network.
  • Collaborate with Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships and programmatic staff to identify project funding needs and develop strategies to achieve funding goals.

Qualifications

Skills, experience and training required

  • 5+ years professional fundraising experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a relevant field or equivalent lived work experience.
  • Proven experience in building and managing donor relationships, including in-person solicitations.
  • Track record of successfully securing major gifts and meeting revenue targets.
  • Advanced grant-writing experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and collaborate across departments.
  • Superb written and spoken French and English language skills.
  • Strong ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex issues.
