Job Description

Position Title: Digital Specialist, Climate & Communities

Terms: 1-year contract, full-time (34 hours/ 4-day week)

Location: Based at our Vancouver Office, with remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reporting to: Digital Engagement Manager, Digital & Technology Team

Salary: 45-50k, based on experience

The Climate and Communities teams at the David Suzuki Foundation have big, bold and courageous goals. We are working on achieving the following by 2025:

  • Federal and provincial governments implement policies and plans to cut carbon pollution in half by 2030.
  • Communities representing 50 per cent of Canada’s population implement ambitious action plans to reduce environmental footprints.

In order to support our pressing 2025 goals, we’re looking for a highly skilled person who understands how to communicate effectively on digital channels in order to engage, inspire and motivate online audiences and communities to take action.

Under the guidance of our Digital Engagement Manager (digital team), and our Climate Engagement Specialist (climate team), you will create digital first campaigns that show a deep understanding of both the audiences they serve and digital trends, goals and tactics.

You take responsibility for the online community you create and serve, and steward them by providing relevant and engaging digital content and opportunities to take action. You design and execute online tactics that enable everyday people to have a real impact on policy and society.

Finally, DATA is your best friend and you never go anywhere without it. You introduce it to all your other friends and certainly would not make an important decision without consulting it.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design high-quality digital content across all digital channels aligned with our vision and voice.
  • Drive innovation through research and testing strategies and best practice engagement methods.
  • Ensure our digital campaign work supports DSF’s long-term goals.
  • Design effective calls to action for audiences as part of our sustained supporter experience.
  • Implement strategies for tracking and analyzing KPIs for strong digital campaigns.
  • Responsible for end-to-end execution of high-performing, innovative and effective online campaigns.
  • Craft compelling emails and online actions and produce organic social media content. Design graphics and memes.
  • Consistent data management and community stewardship via Salesforce and integrated Tech Stack
  • Provide testing support to drive broader learnings at DSF.
  • Create and execute effective online advertising campaigns to bring new people into our climate community.
  • Ensure the existing community is kept engaged with content relevant to their interests and behaviour.

Qualifications

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required

Education and Experience:

  • 2+ year’s experience working in an advocacy-based organization managing large-list email programs and using social media as the voice of a campaign, organization and brand.
  • 1+ year’s experience using key tools employed by the DSF Digital Team including: Salesforce, WordPress, Google Analytics, mass and peer-to-peer SMS tools, email marketing tools (Marketo), online advocacy (New/Mode), social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn), and digital advertising.
  • 1+ years experience with digital content design tools such as canva, Adobe creative cloud or other design, photo and video editing tools.
  • Expert at building/ executing stellar digital campaigns across channels with great instincts for rapid response and rapidly changing events.
  • Proven ability to successfully steward an online community using digital tools and communications that sustain supporters in long-term engagement.
  • You know data analytics and audience insights. You make data and audience-driven decisions to design and adapt digital campaigns that rock.
  • Climate change issues are important to you and so is your work in the climate movement.
