Job Description

Position Title: Accountant, Payroll & Revenue

Terms: Permanent, full-time (4-day week)

Location: Based at our Vancouver Office

Reporting to: Our Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Salary: $55,000 -$65,000

About the role:

We are currently looking for a collaborative, communications-oriented and committed Accountant, Payroll & Revenue to join us at our DSF Vancouver Headquarters.

In this accounting role, you’ll work under the direction of our CFO to deliver exceptional payroll and revenue results. You have excellent organizational and time management skills – and thrive as an engaged and effective team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills. Your Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will be the administration of payroll and revenue functions for the David Suzuki Foundation in British Columbia and its associated offices in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

You manage and process payroll for approximately 85-90 salaried and hourly employees in BC, ON and QC. You are adept and experienced at the following:

  • Maintain employee records.
  • Provide input and administer all payroll changes, e.g. maternity leaves, parental leaves, sick leave, short term and long term disability, etc.
  • Coordinate payroll with external service provider and People & Culture to ensure complete and accurate processing of payrolls.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from staff and external agencies.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries for allocation of payroll to projects and accounts in the financial system. Prepare payroll reports as required.
  • Provide guidance on current payroll legislation and employment standards.
  • Manage all regulatory filings for payroll.
  • Manage RSP benefits program for employees.
  • Perform periodic audits of payroll and benefits to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Prepare and submit deposits to the bank on a regular basis.
  • Record revenues in the financial system.
  • Monthly reconciliations of all donations received in the donor management system to revenues recorded in the financial system.
  • Manage all restricted grant agreements.
  • Reconcile payroll totals and ensure all deductions and health benefit plan payments are made as scheduled.
  • Filing Record of employment (ROE) online
  • Assist with financial audits.
  • Reconciles, produces and distributes T4s and Quebec Relevé(s) in timely manner
  • Provide recommendations and oversee implementation of changes to comply with legislation.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 3-5+ years’ payroll experience, with formal accounting education plus a knowledge of payroll legislation and employment standards nationally.
  • Canadian Payroll Association designation.
  • ADP and Rise payroll system experience.
  • Extensive experience using integrated financial accounting systems with an accounts payable module.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with not-for-profit accounting standards and practices.
  • Advanced excel skills and experience with accurate account reconciliations, with excellent attention to detail.
