Job Description

Position Title: Development Officer, Leadership Giving, Québec

Location: Based at our Montreal office

Reporting: Director, Development and Strategic Partnerships

Job status: 14-month maternity contract, full-time (34 hours/ 4-day work week)

Salary: $50,000-$55,000, dependent upon experience

The Development Officer, Leadership Giving, is a self-starter who builds and maintains relationships with David Suzuki Foundation mid-level ($1K-$9,999) and leadership giving ($10K+) donors through ‘high- touch’ engagement and professional stewardship. Development Officers are responsible for populating a pipeline of prospects and engaging them in the work of the Foundation to further our mission. The Officer has a keen understanding of environmental issues and is able to convey how donors’ generosity make a difference. The role oversees fundraising activities in the province of Quebec, focusing on leadership and Francophone donors. The position is based in Montréal.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director, Development to set and achieve annual fundraising goals and revenue targets, and to evaluate progress
  • In collaboration with the Development Director and Director of Quebec, act as the primary relationship manager to cultivate, solicit and steward major donors in Quebec
    • Includes portfolio of individuals, foundations and corporate supporters
  • Develop and manage proposals and applications to foundations (institutional, family and corporate), including budgets
  • Coordinate cultivation, proposals and reports with staff in DSF’s other departments
  • Collaborate with other departments in identifying project funding needs and develop strategy to achieve funding goals
  • Write compelling cases for support for initiatives in need of funding
  • Proactively steward current major funders through regular updates, invitations to events, writing reports, and facilitating contact with other DSF staff
  • Arrange and strategically prepare for meetings between prospects/donors and senior leaders of the DSF
  • Initiate and manage special events in the region, including fundraising events and donor cultivation and recognition events on a variety of scales and in a variety of locations
  • Capitalize on DSF-led and external event opportunities for networking, stewardship and cultivation
  • Work with regional Development Committee board member (Stephen Bronfman) to create events designed to steward and engage his network.

Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Skill Sets:

  • Minimum three years professional fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Strong experience building donor relationships and meeting revenue targets
  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma or equivalent working experience
  •  Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills
  • Superb written and spoken English and French language skills
  • Knowledge of CRA charitable tax receipting rules an asset
  • Ability to communicate the values and programs of the David Suzuki Foundation in a way that lets donors understand how their support makes a difference
  • Strong values aligned with DSF’s mission, demonstrated through work or community service
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Raiser’s Edge; experience with Office 365 and/or SharePoint an asset; experience with Salesforce an asset
