Job Description

Position title: Development Officer, Leadership Giving

Term: Permanent, full-time 

Reporting to: Director, Development and Strategic Partnerships

Location: Vancouver office

Salary range: $60,000-65,000 annually based on experience, 4-day/34-hour work week, 3 weeks’ vacation and benefits package.

About the role

The Development Officer, Leadership Giving, is a self-starter who builds and maintains relationships with David Suzuki Foundation mid-level ($1K-$9,999) and leadership giving ($10K+) donors through ‘high- touch’ engagement and professional stewardship. Development Officers are responsible for populating a pipeline of prospects and engaging them in the work of the Foundation to further our mission. The Officer has a keen understanding of environmental issues and is able to convey how donors’ generosity make a difference.

The position will be based in Vancouver and may require multi-day travel once or twice per year in additional to regional day trips.

Responsibilities

Work with the Director, Development to set and achieve annual fundraising goals and revenue targets, and to evaluate portfolio progress. Expectation to build a robust pipeline of prospects and engage them in our mission to increase organizational capacity.

  • Responsible for raising funds from major funders ($1,000 and above) including a portfolio of leadership giving donors ($10,000 and above) comprised of individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Steward current major funders through regular updates, invitations to events, writing reports, and facilitating contact with other DSF staff
  • Initiate and manage special events in the region, including fundraising events and donor cultivation and recognition events on a variety of scales and in a variety of locations
  • Maintain and update information and activities in donor database
  • Develop and manage proposals and applications to funders and foundations (institutional, family and corporate), including budget
  • Coordinate with staff in DSF’s other departments to monitor, evaluate and report on program results
  • Collaborate with other departments in identifying project funding needs and develop strategy to achieve funding goals
  • Write compelling cases for support for initiatives in need of funding.

Qualifications

About you

You have previous experience in relationship management, donor databases and the major gifts process. You are professional, organized, and results-oriented. Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate across departments is essential. Above all, you are passionately committed to achieving the highest standards and consistently exceeding expectations in all aspects of your work.

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum three years professional fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Strong experience building donor relationships and meeting revenue targets
  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma or equivalent working experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills
  • Superb written and spoken English language skills. French an asset, but not required.
  • Knowledge of CRA charitable tax receipting rules an asset
  • Ability to communicate the values and programs of the David Suzuki Foundation in a way that lets donors understand how their support makes a difference
  • Strong values aligned with DSF’s mission, demonstrated through work or community service
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Raiser’s Edge; experience with Office 365 and/or SharePoint an asset; experience with Salesforce an asset
