Job Description

Databases and event logs are complementary infrastructure in modern software architecture. As an engineer at DataStax, you will tap your experience building cloud-native systems to build a Pulsar event streaming service to complement Astra, the world's best cloud-native database. You would be highly involved in the design, implementation, and operation of solutions to solve the problems as we scale up and deliver Pulsar to our users so that they can solve complex, cloud-scale problems without the operational burden of running a distributed data persistence platform.

What you will do:

  • Design, document, develop, operate and maintain systems using kubernetes for deployment

  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, operability, and stability of production systems

  • Optimize our infrastructure at both the software and hardware layers

  • Design and build algorithms to help detect anomalies and trend changes in our production systems.

  • Work with Apache Pulsar on a massive scale while playing an integral part in our mission to put the power of Cassandra and Pulsar in the hands of every developer.

  • Perform regular code reviews among peers

Your experience should include:

  • Passion for experimenting with new technologies and the ability to independently learn them and guide a path to their adoption

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)

  • Demonstrated understanding of software and systems engineering best practices, concepts, and technologies

  • Production experience with any of the following highly desired: Kubernetes, Apache Pulsar, Terraform/Chef/Puppet, Apache Kafka, Golang, Hashicorp stack

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex problems in large scale distributed systems with a variety of technologies

  • Strong proclivity for solving complex and interesting problems and have the confidence to run systems in a production environment
