Job Description

Position Overview
A new role, the Director of Logistics is responsible to bring a strategic vision and tactical leadership to our growing transportation and logistics endeavors. This position leads our fledgling SilverLink Logistics business. This includes on-boarding new customers, building a team, business development, customer engagement and problem resolution. Days range from building pitch-decks to meeting with clients to trouble-shooting one-off movements gone bad.

This position takes the helm to envision and operationalize new transportation related products and solutions. Such activities might include taking point on developing the business case for a new acquisition. Or, working with our technology team to add new features and functionality to existing platforms to penetrate more of the market. Or, understanding new service needs in the market and working with outside parties to create a solution tailored for the dairy industry. And much more.

This role is entrepreneurial in nature, tucked under a 20-year old software venture. It requires a combination of deep transportation savviness, a belief in oneself and desire to blaze a new trail, but also an understanding of how to effectively manage change in a matrix organization. The rules and boundaries may continually change, but the position is at the forefront of building a solution that could very well upend the entire supply-chain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day operations and growth of SilverLink Logistics. Lead team, oversee business development, on-board new clients, scale back-office processes, bring best-in-class 3PL systems, structures, and efficiencies to the operation. Create key internal and external metrics to measure performance and profitability.
  • Become a dairy-hauling expert that our clients come to trust. Help clients understand current problems in their transportation networks and propose new solutions to address those problems. Due to breadth of Dairy.com products and services, proposed solutions might include software, services, project work or complete outsourcing to our 3PL. Depending on solution type, you will define, build and deploy new solutions as business needs dictate.
  • Become a subject matter expert and trusted advisor for internal projects touching transportation, scheduling and haulers. Collaborate with product managers and technology teams to influence design and development of new software solutions.
  • Lead internal transportation initiatives. Assess acquisition targets for fit to the dairy industry and Dairy.com footprint. Build business cases and financial metrics as needed.
  • Support sales team and business development efforts in all transportation related matters.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years transportation and logistics experience. Food or ag preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.  MBA preferred.
  • Proven experience in 3PL operations and oversight.
  • Proven experience implementing new transportation or logistics products.
  • P&L responsibility – ability to create new product or business line financials.
  • Some selling, business development or account management experience preferred.
  • Experience in freight factoring and/or TMS
