Job Description

Our Finance Manager - Financial Accounting is looking to recruit an Assistant Financial Accountant  to join their high performing team.

You will be responsible for accurate and timely weekly reporting of all financial / administrative areas covered within the Financial Accounting section, including but not limited to: Payroll, Fixed Assets, Pensions, Depreciation, Cash management and Payroll payovers. 

Key stakeholders will include, but not limited to: Payroll department, HMRC, Cashiers, Pension providers, Flexible benefit providers, Owner Driver department, Infrastructure & Sustainability teams and Network finance teams.

You will be required to assist and support the Financial Accounting Managers within DPD Finance to achieve Strategic objectives and work alongside all areas of the Finance team to achieve the department and company wide strategic objectives.

Key Tasks/Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure that payroll related costs are accurately reported in the Profit & Loss on a timely basis (weekly), alongside issuing detailed reports required by the business to help them report costs and key performance indicators.
  • Accurately report weekly depreciation costs, help manage depreciation trackers and assist in annual depreciation forecasting.
  • Prepare and reconcile a number of key balance sheets within Financial Accounting, for e.g - Payroll control accounts, HMRC payovers, VAT control accounts and Fixed assets. 
  • Fixed asset management, including the creation and disposal of fixed assets, reconciliation of fixed asset registers, bi-annual verifications and monthly reporting of fixed asset schedules to the Group.
  • Will be required to build effective working relationships with the stakeholders listed above, ensuring all related queries are responded to efficiently and concisely. 
  • Will be required to work with the following systems:
  • Unit 4 - Agresso (Financial systems), Success Factors (Payroll), Excel / Powerpoint, Google Suite, Barclays online banking (Cash management) and Caseware (Statutory accounting).
  • WIll require basic understanding of GDPR, keeping records and double entry accounting.
  • Assist in daily cash management and help prepare rolling daily forecasts for the DPDgroup.
  • Checking the VAT status of our owner drivers on a periodic basis and assisting in raising manual invoices for terminated drivers.
  • Responsibility for various payroll deduction schemes for our DPD employees including:
  • Pensions, Court Orders, Childcare, ISAs, Cycle2work and other Flexible benefit schemes. 
  • Other ad hoc duties may be required for the role.
  • A study package is included (ACCA).

Qualifications

You must have graduated with at least a 2.1 degree in Accounting or have equivalent
Accounting experience. You must have experience within a busy Accounts Payable function, ideally gained within a large fast paced industry but this is not essential. We would also require you to have: 

  • Good Excel skills with the ability to analyse large amounts of data, and resolve problems
  • A passion for numbers and data is essential as well as the ability to use a number of analytical techniques. 
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate in a number of ways and at all levels
  • Self confident, self motivated, with a flexible approach to work
